How can I get insurance to help me with a breast reduction?
Breast reduction
Aug 18, 2017
Thanks for your questions. Based on the information provided, I think you would be an appropriate candidate for breast reduction surgery. Most insurance companies will cover this procedure as long as you have documentation from a physician that your symptoms are caused by large breasts AND that you have failed more conservative measures for pain relief (ie. over the counter analgesics, physical therapy or chiropractic care). Many insurance companies will also dictate...
I'm very confused. Is this swelling or a fluid (hematoma) in my right chest and nipple? (Photo
Bruising after surgery
Aug 17, 2017
Thank you for your question. The photos provided are concerning for a right breast hematoma, though it is difficult to assess the extent without a formal in-person evaluation. On occasion, post operative fluid collections like hematomas need to be evacuated to prevent complications. I would suggest contacting your surgeon as soon as possible. Best of luck to you.
My nipples & skin are super sensitive to touch or anything that rubs against them?
Sensative skin
Aug 17, 2017
Thanks for your questions. Changes in sensation following breast augmentation are quite common and range the gamut from decreased or total lack of sensation to profound hypersensitivity. These changes occur because the nerves that supply sensation to the skin and/or nipple areolar complex become irritated as your breast tissues are manipulated during your surgical procedure and because of post operative inflammation. Nerves heal quite slowly, so it may take weeks to...
Is my nipple OK after a breast lift? 2 weeks post op
Concerned in AL
Aug 15, 2017
Thank you for your question. Based on the photos provided (which are not a substitute for an in-person evaluation), you appear to have a pink nipple that is sensative. Both of these indicate that your nipple is quite healthy. I believe that the black stains you are referring to are due to old and dried blood on your dressings. You may also have bruising that may cast a dark appearance below your dressings. Please follow up with your plastic surgeon tomorrow...
Do I have fat or gynecomastia and do I need a surgery or sport?
Gynecomastia
Aug 15, 2017
Thank you for your question. It is difficult to diagnose gynecomastia without a formal in-person evaluation. Please seek oconsultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck to you.
What is the typical patient response to the saline injections of the implant expander?
Expander response
Aug 9, 2017
Thank you for your question. The feelings you describe following tissue expansion are quite 'normal' and experienced by a significant percentage of patients. Many describe a feeling of coolness, "sloshing fluid", tightness, stretching, muscle spasm, and discomfort following expansion. These feelings can last for several days, and the pain and spasms can typically be alleviated with over the counter analgesics and/or muscle relaxants. Rarely do patients need additional...
My boobs are killing me. Can I get a breast reduction?
Breast reduction
Aug 9, 2017
Thank you for your question. Based on the information you have provided, I believe you may be an appropriate candidate for breast reduction surgery. Macromastia (large breasts) can be the cause of a variety of physical symptoms including back, shoulder, and neck pain, as well as recurrent skin rashes under the breasts. If you are contemplating breast reduction surgery, I would suggest a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who can help to guide you...
Can anyone give me more information on this and if it is normal? I don't know what to call it.
Wrinkle(free) in time
Aug 9, 2017
Thanks for your question. While a picture is certainly no substitute for an in-person evaluation, I can assure you that your post operative contours (including that of the 'wrinkle' to which you've referred) will change significantly with time. Eight days post op if extremely early in your recovery to determine what your final cosmetic outcome will be. You have a moderate amount of bruising and swelling (as expected), and the latter will likely take at least 6-12...
What's the best thing for me to with a stomach like this? Would I be able to get a full tummy
Best option
Aug 1, 2017
Thanks for your question. In my opinion, I think you would achieve the best cosmetic results with a full tummy tuck and flank liposuction. You have too much redundant skin about the belly button for a mini tuck, and liposuction alone would only serve to create additional loose skin. If you intend to lose weight (which can lead to additional loose skin), I might suggest that you do so prior to moving forward with a tummy tuck procedure to maximize your aesthetic outcome...
White substance in drain 2 weeks after tummy tuck?
Drainage
Aug 1, 2017
Thanks for your question. This drainage looks quite normal. The majority is thin, clear, yellow fluid. The small amount of particulate material you see is very common and is usually the result of the breakdown of proteins in the clear yellow fluid (serous fluid) or small pieces of fatty tissue. As long as you are not febrile and are feeling well, it's likely not worth your worry. Should things change, please contact your surgeon. Best of luck to you!
Do I need a tummy tuck? If yes then mini or full?
Tummy tuck
Jul 24, 2017
Thank you for your question. In my opinion, the most appropriate surgery simply based on the pictures provided (which are no substitute for a formal in-person examination by a board certified plastic surgeon) would be a full tummy tuck (with muscle tightening) and possibly flank liposuction. A full tummy tuck would allow you to achieve a much better contour of the abdomen since you do have some excess/saggy skin above the level of the umbilicus, and likely a weakening...
How long do implant sizers typically have to remain in the breast before the second surgery? (
Expander prior to permanent implant
Jul 21, 2017
Thanks for your great question! Typically, tissue expanders can be exchanged for permanent implants 2-3 months following your final expansion. How quickly you achieve your desired breast volume is dependent upon how much fluid is injected at each expansion and how frequently you are expanded. For instance, I usually reevaluate patients weekly and inject 30-50cc per side. Please realize, though, that expansion schedules are patient and surgeon specific, so I...
Swimming after lipo?
Swimming after Lipo
Jul 21, 2017
Thank you for your question. It sounds like you have been quite compliant with your prescribed post operative care---and it's unlikely that swimming 3 weeks following liposuction will lead to an adverse cosmetic outcome. As you've surmised, you will indeed have persistent swelling at 3 weeks post liposuction. I typically explain to patients that it may take up to 3 months for acute swelling to resolve, and that changes in the contours of your thighs and flanks can...
My question is what does a flap fat transfer entail and do you think its safe?
Expander issues
Jul 20, 2017
Thank you for your questions. I am sorry to hear that you have had complications following your expander-based reconstruction. While it is very difficult to render an opinion regarding what options might best suit you without a formal in-person consultation, you may, indeed, be an appropriate candidate for what is referred to as an autologous tissue flap reconstructive procedure (ie a DIEP flap). This is very different from fat transfer in which fat is harvested from...
25 female 2 years post op BA: unhappy with sag, areola size and location. Please help to corre
Unhappy after BA
Jul 19, 2017
Thank you for your question. I, too, feel that you would benefit from a breast lift. This would shrink the size of the areola, return the nipple areola complex to a more youthful position, and improve the contours of your breasts. The trade off, of course, is scarring. Be mindful that your breasts and breast contours can change during and following pregnancy, so careful consideration should be given to 1. the timing of surgery and 2. how dissatisfied you...
