How is the Lap Band Filled?
How is the Lap Band Filled?

Coming off the band is the tubing and it ends with the port which allow access to the balloon of the band and sits under your skin. You can feel it, but you can’t see it. To access it we use a needle to introduce some fluid, or to take out fluid if your band’s too tight. A needle is placed into the port and then fluid can be pushed in or pulled out, and it comes out. Sometimes, we use numbing cream on the skin to make it as painless as possible.
Single Incision Gastric Band Through the Belly Button
Single Incision Gastric Band Through the Belly Button

Incision surgery was a big topic a couple of years ago not so talked about these days. I’ve done single incision, I can do single incision surgery. For Lap-Band, it makes some sense because you’re making a fairly sizable, about an inch incision in the belly button to get the band in place.
The up sides are one single incision that’s given in the belly button which saves you about three or maybe four incisions, that are about the width of my pinky, from being on the outskirts of…

Can I Get Gastric Band Surgery if my BMI is Normal?
Can I Get Gastric Band Surgery if my BMI is Normal?
Feb 9, 2018
Feb 9, 2018
If someone asked me for a Lap Band and their BMI was in the normal range, specifically from 19 to 25, I would pause, and find out the situation for why they wanted that Lap Band. If they’ve been someone who has been a normal weight their entire life and they want to become even more skinny, the answer would be no from me as a surgeon. You probably could go out and find a surgeon who would put it in, because it’s a very low risk surgery. Someone who has a normal BMI has the…
About cash payment for sleeve gastrectomy
About cash payment for sleeve gastrectomy

I can think of very few services that would turn down cash, check or credit card as payment for their Gastric Sleeve. In the event that your insurance doesn’t cover the surgery or you want to get it done quicker than the 3 to 6 months time frame that they require you wait before surgery. In most practices, there is an option for paying out of pocket. Many practices like my own, also offer financing to cover the cost of the Sleeve. Its not cheap, its an investment and in most cases well…
Is the Lap Band removed after you reach your healthy weight?
Is the Lap Band removed after you reach your healthy weight?
Feb 9, 2018
Feb 9, 2018
The goal with the Lap-Band is that it stays in, not only to get you down to the weight you want to be but also to help you stay there. If you’ve lost a successful amount of weight with a Lap-Band, and then we remove the Lap-Band because you were where you wanted to be, in all likelihood you would regain most of the weight back because you no longer have the Lap-Band inside helping to control your portions and control your appetite. After a certain number of adjustments are reached and your…

Has my band failed, or do I need a fill?

You are able to see a full portion if you’re not feeling restriction after six eight bites, then your Lap-Band needs to be tightened. It’s just not as tight as it can be to limit how much food you take in, and then think if you visit your bariatric surgeon they’ll feel that a tightening of your band is in order and it will help you lose weight. If your band is tight enough where a good portion of foods make you feel full or get stuck but you find that you’re still gaining weight,…
How Much Does Gastric Banding Cost?
How Much Does Gastric Banding Cost?

Weight loss surgery is an investment in your future. I like a deal as much as anybody you know. It’s not what you spend, its what you save.
I think when it comes to picking a surgery and a surgeon, price shouldn’t be the main motivating factor. One of the most important things about having Lap-Band surgery is the relationship that you form with the bariatric surgeon because this is someone that’s not only operating on you but also taking care of you for months and years afterwards. The…
