Breast Lift incisions
Jun 24, 2019
Thanks for your question and sharing your concerns. Breast lift incisions are typically placed around the nipple itself and down the center of the breast toward the fold. Depending on your individual needs there may be an incision in the fold of the breast as well. From what is visible of your tattoo it is unlikely that the incisions would interfere with the ink. The new nipple position will be higher and pointing forward but the goal is always to leave…
What can I do about one of my inframammary scars that is sitting too high on top of the breast fo
Time is on your side
Nov 4, 2018
The important thing is that you are happy with the result! It is natural for scars to look red and feel firm or even raised at this point after surgery; it is a sign the body is doing it’s job to heal the incision. You are only 2 weeks from surgery and your scars will look better and better as time goes on. It is important to discuss scar management with your surgeon but I generally recommend gentle scar massage starting one week after surgery and then more…
Can you decide after tissue expansion to go with tissue exchange instead of an implant?
You still have options.
Oct 31, 2018
Thanks for sharing your question. Breast reconstruction is a journey and there can be many bumps in the road that lead to patients wondering about other options. Your plastic surgeon is the best resource to get more information about your specific case. She or he should be able to talk to you about how your reconstruction is moving along and address any concerns that you are having.
That being said, you can still switch to using your own tissue after a tissue expander has…
34 year old mom of one. Wanting to get breast augmentation done but wondered if i needed a lift?
Your goals will help determine plan
Oct 29, 2018
Thanks for sharing your question and photos. A careful discussion with your plastic surgeon will be important to get you the best result. Depending on what you are looking for you could have a good result with either. Your augmentation would likely be best placed under the muscle to help conceal the upper part of the implant and a dual plane placement can help fill out the lower part of the breast. If you are desiring a large augmentation your breast may be…
Could releasing tubular breasts let them grow naturally?
Lower pole constriction in tuberous breasts
Oct 24, 2018
Thank you for sharing your questions and photos. Tuberous breasts are a complex problem with several things to consider when treating them. A constricted lower pole, as you know, is a common component. This comes from an abnormal formation of the fold which changes how the breast tissue develops and positions itself on the chest. The tissue is structurally different and has a different appearance under a microscope.
Unfortunately just releasing this constriction…

Tummy Tuck Is the Answer
Oct 22, 2018
Thanks for sharing your picture and question. Especially after carrying 4 children the rectus muscles (six pack muscles) become separated and lead to the bulge that you’re experiencing. The only way to treat this is to tighten those muscles back together with a tummy tuck. No amount of exercise or weight loss will treat the separation of the muscles. Liposuction will also only reduce the amount of fat over the muscles and does not treat the separation…
Why have I had pain for almost 2 months after under muscle, 375cc?
Pain should improve with time
Sep 17, 2018
Thank you for sharing your question. I’m sure that having continued pain is a source of worry on your part but the good news is this type of pain is normal after breast augmentation and should continue to improve. The tissues around the breast are stretched in order to allow space for the implant and this includes nerves that give sensation of the breast. These nerves can be irritated for some time after surgery but should continue to improve over the next few months after…
I’m 37 years old and have breastfed 3 children. Would I get good results from a BA? Why can be do
Breast augmentation after children
Sep 12, 2018
Thank you for sharing your question and photos. Based on your pictures you would be a good candidate for a breast augmentation. In a thin patient, like yourself, there are important considerations when looking for a natural result. You want to make sure that your plastic surgeon chooses an implant that is the right width for your frame. I would also recommend placing your implant under the muscle to camouflage the top of the implant. The teardrop shaped implants…
Does breast augmentation on older female require additional periodical maintenance as the sagging
Breast augmentation in the older patient.
Sep 10, 2018
Thank you for sharing your excellent question! I counsel my patients that implants are never lifetime devices as gravity and aging continue to change the breast. Some patients may need additional surgery at some point to correct the natural aging. However, that does NOT mean that every patient will require surgery to correct things. Particularly in your case with an implant on one side and a reconstruction on the other your breasts may age differently…
Keloid scars on areolas 3.5 months post-op. When will be gone?
Scars develop over time
Sep 9, 2018
Thank you for sharing you question. The normal course of healing any incision takes several months. I counsel my patients that scars typically will be minimized by 6 months but can take up to a year. You have done well with your silicone strips and missing just a few days would not be the cause of any thickened scar. One extra thing you can try is scar massage; this will help to minimize the scar as the collagen remodels during healing.
Will my breast lift case be difficult?
Breast lift questions
Sep 5, 2018
Thanks for sharing your question! Based on your pictures you should have a fairly straightforward lift. If you’re just looking to treat the droopiness and asymmetry of your nipples. A discussion with your plastic surgeon will help to define what approach would work best for you. There are various ways to do a lift and any incisions on your breast from your previous augmentation will need to be addressed when deciding which approach is best.
One other thing…
Why does medical insurance have a weight limit to do a breast reduction?
Breast reduction coverage by insurance
Sep 4, 2018
Thank you for sharing your question. Insurance companies have several metrics they look at when deciding if they will consider breast reduction surgery “medically necessary.” A lot of it depends on the size of your breasts relative to your height and weight. During a consultation with your plastic surgeon the amount of breast tissue that will be removed is discussed and this information is included when we submit your case for insurance coverage approval.
Other important…

Augmentation can be performed after mastopexy
Aug 30, 2018
Thank you for sharing your question. A mastopexy is generally a good way to treat the droopiness of the breasts after significant weight loss. However the breast also loses volume which can be addressed by an augmentation with an implant. You can discuss an augmentation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to choose the right type of implant and placement that would best fit your desires.
Increased pain and edema
A reason to call your surgeon
Aug 28, 2018
Thanks for your question. It is very common to have aches and pains that seem to start and linger even several weeks after a tummy tuck. This especially happens after you’ve started to feel a little better and start moving around more. However, if you’ve had a dramatic change in swelling and pain it would be good to call your surgeon to discuss this. A seroma (fluid collection under the skin) can seem like edema. This can be treated easily by aspirating fluid in…
Nipple sparing mastectomy with reconstruction with ADM, Mentor Siltex round moderate plus profile
Fat grafting may be a benefit
Aug 22, 2018
Thank you for sharing your question. Breast reconstruction is typically a multistep process and you already have a great foundation to continue your reconstruction. The important thing to keep in mind is that all your incisions look like they have healed well, and you can start thinking about the next steps. The implants will settle with time, but your textured implants will not settle nearly as much as a smooth implant. The rippling you are experience is a reasonably…
