Will an eye revision fix my left eye?
Eye Surgery Revision
Aug 4, 2021
Dear apakoo:Your problem relates to both post-surgical changes to your left eye, and your ethnic characteristics to the medial eyes themselves. You have a normal epicanthal fold bilaterally, but with your left sided blepharoplasty this causes an increase in webbing. The best treatment for this is what is known in plastic surgery is a “jumping man flap”. I believe this would help, but you would need to seek out an experienced plastic surgeon that is familiar with this technique. I hope thi...
Facelift at 38? I already get Botox and some fillers so that is obviously not the answer.
Facial Rejuvenation
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Nancy66626:When I examine your photographs, you have fairly young facial characteristics. There are some lower eyelid changes which give you a somewhat tired look, and they could be treated with a blepharoplasty nicely. Face lifting improves the jawline and the neck, and when I look at your photographs, your jawline is very tight and long, and you do not appear to have any excess neck tissue. The angle of your neck and jaw is very nice as well. I do not believe that face lifting has any...
Do you recommend Platysmoplasty, or Facetite with Morpheus, or Botox? 47yrs old.
Platysmal Repair
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Sunnydaysforever:From your pictures, you look fairly young, but you definitely have excess tissue in the midline of the neck. It looks as if you have lost a significant amount of weight recently. There are no pictures that show your neck animation with the corner of your mouth turned down which activates the platysmal muscle, and is the maneuver to see if there is platysmal spreading. With the degree of excess skin that you have, I do not believe any nonsurgical devices will achieve...
When can you begin to wear your invisalign aligners again after undergoing a facelift?
Invisalign and Facelifting
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Lucia_maria:Regarding your face lifting, during the surgery there will most likely be a breathing tube in use, but in the post-operative period there should be no problem with wearing your Invisalign device. You can always consult with your surgeon, but I would plan on resuming use the day after surgery and stay on schedule.Sincerely, Dann Leonard, MD
I have had 2 ptosis surgeries on my right upper eyelid, but my eyes are still very uneven. What are my
Options After 2 Previous Surgeries
Aug 4, 2021
Dear d1993:I do not know the exact ptosis surgeries that you had, but based upon your photographs, the right eyebrow is higher than the left, either static or spastic, and the position of the right lateral canthus (the outside corner of the eye) is higher than the left. A nonsurgical option would be to Botox the forehead above the right eyebrow and see if this would relax the eyebrow down into position. If a lateral canthopexy was performed with your previous surgeries, then a revision right...
What kind of surgery do I need to fix my uneven eyes?
Uneven Eyes
Aug 4, 2021
Dear othmany601:With close exam of your photographs, there are definitely asymmetries to the periorbital area, and it appears to be that the left eye is more proptotic (pushing further forward than the right eye). If this is the case, this would be best evaluated and treated by a plastic surgeon trained in craniofacial surgical techniques. At that time, most likely CT scanning would be performed to evaluate the orbit itself and the globe position within the orbit as well as surrounding...
Lower Blepharoplasty swelling in 1 eye 1.5 years post. Previous undereye filler issues. Advice? (photo
Swelling
Aug 4, 2021
Dear kther99:It sounds like you have been through a lot. When I examine your pictures, there is still some puffiness and excess skin to the lower eyelid on the right side, but there seems to be quite a bit of spasm in the lateral orbicularis oculi muscle. Your story does not say where Botox was performed, but you might try Botox in the lateral periorbital/crows feet area to try to relax the orbicularis oculi muscle. This should not cause the lower eyelid to droop, but may help soften the...
Wrinkled eyelids after upper blepharoplasty. Need a revision?
Wrinkled Eyelids
Aug 4, 2021
Dear DoingMeFinally:When I examine your post-operative and current pictures, what stands out is your scleral show (the whites of your eyes between your cornea and lower eyelid). This lower eyelid position could be causing the wrinkles that you see. The wrinkles were there in your pre-op pictures as well. Best surgery for you, in my opinion, would be a bilateral lateral canthopexy, to elevate and tightened the lower eyelid to a position that would eliminate the scleral show. I would recommend...
What is the right procedure for my lower eyelids?
Lower Eyelid Procedures
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Vivid4878:When I look at your pictures, the majority of your problem is excess tissue and not so much herniating fat. There is a small amount of herniating fat on the medial aspect. I believe you’re right and that Botox and fillers will never achieve your goals. My recommendation would be a lower blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) with skin and fat excision and a lateral canthopexy to make sure the lower eyelid stays in a good position. I believe this would solve your problems.Sincerely, D...
Lower eyelids drooping, can it be fixed?
Lower Eyelid Drooping
Aug 4, 2021
Dear grejon10:With close exam of your photographs, I do see the problem you are talking about. The lower eyelid is definitely in a lower position on both the left eye, but even more so on the right eye, as evidenced by significant scleral show (white part of your eye) on the right. You are quite young to have this occur, but it can. The problem you have is not only cosmetic in nature, but often times with the lower position, your tears move in the wrong direction and produce dry eye symptoms...
Asymmetrical Eyes. What can I do about it?
Asymmetrical Eyes
Aug 4, 2021
Dear TeaEnjoyer:With critical examination of your pictures, I do not ascertain a dramatic asymmetry in your eye brows, upper eyelids, globe position or lower eyelids. Based upon my exam of photos, I do not think there is a surgery that will meet your goals. There is a slight asymmetry regarding the super tarsal crease, but again I do not think surgery will meet your goals.Sincerely,Dann Leonard, MD
I'm 21 years old, and my eyes seem severely unsymmetrical. Ptosis or Hypertropia?
Eye Symmetry
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Creative557278:When I examine your pictures, I definitely see the asymmetry in your upper eyelids that you are talking about. I also see that your left eye brow is held higher than the right. I believe that this is what’s elevating the upper eyelid tissue and contributing to the asymmetry. You are young, I would not suggest any surgery at this time, but you might try left forehead Botox to help relax the eyebrow, and see if this helps. Sincerely,Dann Leonard, MD
What surgery do I need to get symmetrical eyes?
Symmetrical Eyes
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Courageous91463:When I look at your photo, what stands out most is that you have eyebrow asymmetry, with the right eyebrow lower than the left. This also causes your right upper eyelid to drop more as well. The best surgical option for you would be a right hemi browlift, which would bring the right brow up into a better position with the left and provide for better symmetry. This would work nicely for you.Sincerely,Dann Leonard, MD
Will insurance cover my arm lift after extreme weight loss?
Insurance Coverage for Arm Lift
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Deltadanielle:I understand your problem, and it is more common than not. I practice in Oregon and have a large bariatric practice and rarely can get arm lift authorized by insurance. You can appeal, but I would prepare you that the answer will still be no. It is frustrating.Sincerely,Dann Leonard, MD
Is it ever okay to NOT pick a board certified plastic surgeon?
Accredited by the Board
Aug 4, 2021
Dear Anhlilly:If a doctor has trained for 7 years in a residency surgery program, or plastic surgery program, and did not take the time or effort to proceed with board certification, there is something wrong. My recommendation would be to steer clear of a doctor in this category and find a surgeon who is accredited by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. You are then assured that the surgeon has a minimum of competence and skills to safely perform your surgery. Sincerely,Dann Leonard, MD
