Lipo commonly done along with abdominoplasty
The mons and other areas adjacent to the abdomen are routinely contoured with liposuction as part of an abdominoplasty when needed. You should of course point out your concerns to your plastic surgeon and be clear on what will be included. (Richard Baxter, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction of the mons pubis should be part of a tummy tuck when needed
Tummy tuck is a body contouring procedure and the whole of the abdomen should be taken into account to realize the best results.
This may include shaping along the waist or hip, or within the mons pubis if needed with liposuction. Some women have a natural or inherited fullness in the pubic area and most don’t like it.
We often see patients who come in for liposuction in this area alone. If seen with abdominal laxity, or accentuated by an abdominal skin fold or prior C-section scar, we are always careful to release the scar, correct the fold, and suction the pubic area with the tummy tuck to ensure the correct contour in the lower abdomen.
If you are uncertain as to your surgeon’s plans, it is important to ask and know upfront to avoid a later disappointment. (Peter E. Johnson, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Mons pubis and abdominoplasty
The mons can swell after an abdominoplasty or can look enlarged relative to a flatter and tighter suprapubic area. A surgeon can certainly reduce the skin and liposuction the fat of the mons in conjunction with an abdominoplasty. (Robin T.W. Yuan, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction of Mons Pubis at the same time as Abdominoplasty
Yes, depending on the patient’s anatomy, I often perform liposuction of the flanks and the mons pubis at the same time as the abdominoplasty. For me, this is considered standard on all of my abdominoplasties and is included on the price. If you post pictures, we may be able to give you more specific advice. (David Shafer, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction of the mons pubis and tummy tucks
There are many new ways of contouring the mons pubis region. Certainly liposuciton in helathy patients with fatty tissue excess will help reduce the fat, however in many there is also an excess skin that hangs. This hanging skin can create issues with hygiene and can be uncomfortable and visible through clothes.
I agree in that a lift of this excessive tissue and fat is often necessary as well. A mons lift with liposuction in some situations can be combnined with your abdominoplasty and may be all that is needed. Rejuvenation of the pubic region is newer area of plastic surgery that has really blossomed following the advent of weight loss surgery. (Charles Perry, MD, Sacramento Plastic Surgeon)
Liposuction of the Mons pubis WITH a Tummy Tuck
With child birth, obesity and aging the Mons pubis sags, enlarges and rotates inferiorly. While we want to elevate a sagging Mons to a youthful position, we do not want it TOO high, nor too pronounced in height. The Mons is commonly liposuctioned or has some of its fat removed directly and is lifted as needed during Tummy tuck or Lower Body Lift operations. Discuss your wishes with your Plastic surgeon.
