A tummy tuck is a body contouring procedure. It is designed to help shape the body, not lose weight. The amount of tissue removed will probably not be noticed when you step on a scale.
Also, no one can guarantee any kind of changes in clothing sizes following tummy tuck. Looking at your pictures, I would say that you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck and should get a nice result. (Edwin C. Pound, III, MD, Albuquerque Plastic Surgeon)
Don’t expect more than a few pounds of weight loss. This is not a weight loss procedure. Without an exam to determine how thick is the fat between the skin and the muscle layer, I couldn’t begin to guess, but it is doubtful that it would be more than 5 pounds.
(And if you weigh yourself the next day you may weigh more than before surgery due to swelling.) I don’t think it is realistic to expect as great a size decrease as you wish for. Discuss with your examing surgeon, who based on the exam can better answer your questions. (Jourdan Gottlieb, MD)
Realistically how many pounds can you lose from a Tummy Tuck? Is it realistic to go from a tight 10 to a 7/8?
It will require doing liposuction on your hips to decrease your entire waist measurement.
The amount of weight loss from the procedure will only be a few pounds, but since it is localized to one area, it will seem like you lost more. (Donald Griffin, MD, Jackson Plastic Surgeon)
I personally do aggressive liposuction of the whole back and abdomen with my tummy tucks. Based on your photos, you might loose up to 3lbs of skin and fat.
Most of my patients drop 2 dress sizes, a few even more. I tell my patients not to weigh themselves in the first 6 weeks, since the scale will not show the weight loss due to postoperative tissue swelling.
See a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person consultation/evaluation. (George Marosan, MD, Bellevue Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tucks change size but not much weight
As all others have stated, a tummy tuck is not likely to decrease your weight by more than a few pounds but is likely to decrease clothes size by about two sizes. (Michael S. Hopkins, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
As I mentioned I always perform liposuction when I do abdominoplasty’s. Using this technique your size not necessarily weight should change significantly. Pound loss does not equate to size loss. Maybe 10 pounds but at least 2 sizes could be lost from tummy tuck surgery. (Darryl J. Blinski, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
Having weighed many TT specimens for curiosity, I would estimate from your photos that your total specimen weight would be less than 3 pounds. (Richard P. Rand, MD, FACS, Hamilton Plastic Surgeon)
