Are my tummy tuck results normal for six months post op?
Your abdomen should be a little flatter than the photo you shared. It is important to follow the post-op instructions that your surgeon gave you.
I would follow up with your surgeon and be completely honest, so that history does not repeat itself if you need a touch up. (Jason Mussman, MD, Phoenix Plastic Surgeon)
I am sorry to hear about the concerns you have after tummy tuck surgery.
As you can imagine, it is difficult to give you good advice based on the snapshot information presented here.
Best to address your concerns with your plastic surgeon, assuming that he/she is a board certified plastic surgeon. If not, seek consultation with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons in your area.
My first thought/concern would be that the diastasis recti “repair” is not sufficient and/or has been disrupted. In other words, based on the photograph, there appears to be some ongoing abdominal wall laxity, that may be improved upon with revisionary surgery.
Again, in-person consultation will be necessary to provide you with precise/meaningful advice. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
It appears as if the central diastasis repair has failed or was never done.
Loose skin after tummy tuck
Without seeing your pre-op and immediately post-op photos, it is difficult to say for sure, but it does appear from this photo that you could have better results. There should not be skin laxity in the middle portion of your abdomen unless you have lost a significant amount of weight since the tummy tuck.
At 6 months post op, you pretty much have the final result from your tummy tuck. I would recommend going back to your surgeon to see what they think and what they can offer you at this point. If you no longer feel comfortable with them and are unhappy with your results, then you can always see another plastic surgeon. (Erika Sato, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
I agree that it would be beneficial to see your pre op pictures. Normally, your abdomen should be flatter at this point. However, it does depend on where you started pre op. You should discuss your concerns with your surgeon. (Jon E. Rast, MD, Kansas City Plastic Surgeon)
Would love to see your pre op photos. Your abdomen should be flatter than the photo you shared. An in person exam is needed. Follow up with your Plastic Surgeon for an exam and to discuss your concerns. (Robert E. Zaworski, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Should be better
We don’t know what you looked like preop or how flat you were at 3 months, but it looks like you should be a bit flatter at 6 months. Your skin can loosen after surgery due to poor elasticity and weight fluctuation but it would be too early at only 6 months. Follow up with your plastic surgeon for advice and reassurance. (David J. Levens, MD, Coral Springs Plastic Surgeon)
