Too old for surgery

Too Old For surgery?

There is no age limit for a tummy tuck or any cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery, like any surgery, must be done safely.

Therefore it is your overall health that matters. However, as we age our skin gets gradually thinner and this can have consequences with healing. (Christopher L. Hess, MD, Fairfax Plastic Surgeon)

Age and tummy tucks surgery

Cosmetic surgery is a combination of anatomy and risks. If you have the anatomical problem that surgery can fix then all that matters are the risks, not the age.

Age is a relative factor and their are plenty of patients over 60 that undergo tummy tucks with great benefits especially if you are fit, active, and healthy. (Robin T.W. Yuan, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Age for a tummy tuck surgery

If you are physiologically young and in good general health, not overweight, and don’t smoke, this would still be a reasonable surgery for you to consider. It’s not too late! (Richard P. Rand, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)

Age is just a number, seek to add life to your years

What really matters is your general health and whether you have any medical contraindications that would complicate the recovery from surgery. If you are not overweight, generally in good health, and lead an active lifestyle, you are likely to do well with your tummy tuck, at 63, or even at 73. Your surgeon will need to evaluate your health variables carefully and can make the appropriate recommendations to proceed or not based on his risk assessments. (Randy Wong, MD, Honolulu Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy Tuck during 60’s is okay if you’re healthy

I have performed tummy tucks on patients your age and older. The actual age is much less important than your state of health. If you are in relatively good health, the risks of a tummy tuck at 63 years of age should be relatively low. It is difficult to tell from your description if you would require a full tummy tuck or a mini-tummy tuck. You should obtain a consultation with a Board-certified plastic surgeon. (John Whitt, MD, Louisville Plastic Surgeon)

You may still be a tummy tuck candidate at 63

It all depends on your medical history and physical evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon. I recently did a Full Tummy Tuck with muscle repair + Body Jet Lipo and Fat transfer to the buttock on a medically cleared 75 year old. So yes, you may be a candidate. Regards (Darryl J. Blinski, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
