A weight loss plan may be a better place to start. An abdominoplasty with liposuction may be an option if weight loss is not realistic.
Smart lipo is not likely to offer any benefit in your case. (Karol A. Gutowski, MD, FACS, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck versus Smartlipo
Without seeing you in person or seeing pictures, it is impossible to give you specific advice. However, at 211 pounds, I doubt that Smartlipo is the choice for you.
Tummy Tuck may not be the right choice either. Weight loss may be the first option followed by tummy tuck. Again, if you post pictures, we can give you much more information. (David Shafer, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Weight loss before surgery
With a weight of 220, your BMI is too high to get the most out of a tummy tuck or liposuction. Weight reduction is your best first step. (Peter E. Johnson, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Need To Lose Weight First
At 5’6″ and 210 lbs I would recommend weight loss prior to any surgical procedure. Your BMI, Body Mass Index, is roughly 34 which means that you are labeled as Obese. I would recommend getting down to at least 180 lbs before considering a surgical procedure. (Itzhak Nir, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction
If you can post a photograph, we can probably give you better information. In general, liposuction is only helpful for localized fat collections and is thus unlikely to be very useful here, whereas tummy tuck will treat bulging and loose skin in the abdominal area. Abdominoplasty now might not be out of the question, depending on whether you have enough loose tissue that abdominoplasty could make enough of a difference to be worthwhile. (James Nachbar, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tuck or Smart Lipo?
Based on the limited information provided however I doubt that you will be a good candidate for either one of the procedures you mentioned. You will likely do much better with significant weight loss prior to proceeding with any type of abdominal wall contouring surgery. Achieving your long-term stable weight prior to surgery will help improve the safety of the planned procedure and decrease chances that additional surgery will be necessary subsequently. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
