It is difficult for a consultant on this panel to give you a straight answer because an examination is really needed. That said go on consults with other specialists in your area and get their opinion (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
Whats a tummy tuck?
It’s hard to answer this with the photos you’ve provided – ideally, you should show how much excess skin you have below your belly button (BB) in addition to what you’ve shown.
In general, the ideal candidate for a tummy tuck has significant excess tissue (more skin than fat) below the BB AND enough excess skin above the BB to pull down to the spot on the lower abdomen where the incision will be located.
Even if you have excess below the BB, if the skin above it is too tight will not be able to move it all the way down, and will wind up with an inverted-T incision. In that case, a modified tummy tuck may provide nearly as good a result. Another choice is, as the doctor suggested, to lose some weight. Based on your appearance at that point, you may be a good candidate for a TT even if you are not now. If there is any question, see a few more doctors in consultation, keeping all of these factors in mind.
You may fine yourself agreeing with the first surgeon, or you may find a surgeons whose plan is more acceptable to you. Either way, you’ll be making a more informed decision. (Alan M. Engler, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Congratulations on your healthy lifestyle! Body contouring to improve your physical appearance and satisfy goals is a very common scenario. You would be an ideal candidate for such and could achieve an excellent result. Typically, an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) excises the lower abdominal tissue and also addresses the upper abdomen, the abdominal wall via tightening, and the lateral flanks/hips to improve contour of this area.
With the amount of laxity and excess skin that is shown and the likely spreading of your abdominal wall, a tummy tuck would be the ideal procedure for you. I would also consider liposuction to your hips, thighs, and lateral flanks to optimize your results. I truly believe that you would be satisfied with the results from this.
Consult with a plastic surgeon well-versed in body contouring to discuss the various options with you and help you to decide which procedure(s) would be the right one for you. (Lewis Albert Andres, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
If you are healthy, the tummy tuck can be performed at your current weight.
