Normally this can be done after a four week period, it’s not advisable to do it before and with drains. (Jaime Campos Leon, MD, Mexico Plastic Surgeon)
At least 6-8 weeks depending on the way your body heal. Some patients heal very good in about 6 weeks. This desicion should be taken by the surgeon you choose after the 6-8 post up procedure.
Choose a board certified plastic surgeon who has done a ton of Brazilian Butt Lifts and has privileges to do this surgery at a local university hospital.
This says his credentials have been checked out by fellow Drs. All surgeries carry risk, talk to your plastic surgeon and choose one wisely. (Mel T. Ortega, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
I generally advise my patients to wait for at least three weeks after surgery before resuming any exercise and, at that, only after I’ve taken a look at them.
I would not recommend your going into a pool while you still have drains. It’s as much a question of raising your pulse and blood pressure (which can increase the risk of bleeding) as the exercise itself. And you should, of course, clear all of this with your own plastic surgeon. (Alan M. Engler, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Surgery and swimming exercise
It is best to be completely healed before going in a pool. Usually this can take 3-4 weeks, but I recommend to my patients limiting exercise after a tummy tuck or breast surgery for at least 3-4 weeks and then heavy lifting and extreme exertion for 6-8 weeks. (Steven Wallach, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
Post op care
I would avoid going swimming exercise for 6-8 weeks after surgery, however, would always confirm with your PS because he may have a specific post-op protocol-always follow post op instructions (Edward J. Bednar, MD, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)
Postop Tummy Tuck Protocol
This should be discussed in detail with your surgeon. I recommend following your surgeon’s protocol exactly. I advise all of my patients to avoid any strenuous activity for 6 weeks after an abdominoplasty.
Pool exercise requires significant twisting and core strength and can put you at unneeded risk for seroma and loosening of the rectus repair. I admire your commitment to exercise, but six weeks of taking it easy will pay off in the long run. (Jason Mussman, MD, Phoenix Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck recovery
I generally advise no heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 5-6 weeks. Swimming exercise can be quite strenuous. I’d recommend holding off until you are 5-6 weeks after surgery. Please talk to your PS about his/her recommendations.Best wishes,Dr. BasuHouston, TX (C. Bob Basu, MD, FACS, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
