Abdominoplasty vs tummy tuck
Abdominoplasty versus full tummy tuck
Actually, those two terms are pretty much interchangeable. A mini-tummy tuck only addresses the lower part of the belly while a circumferential tummy tuck goes all the way around the back. (Jeffrey E. Schreiber, MD, FACS, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
Whats the difference between abdominoplasty and a full tummy tuck?
Basically nothing – they are 2 synonymous terms for the same surgery. Abdominoplasty is the medical term for a tummy tuck. During the procedure, excess skin is removed from below the belly button and the abdominal muscles are tightened to flatten the belly and narrow the waistline.
A well placed scar is generally hidden beneath undergarments or bathing suits. With long-acting numbing medicine placed in the muscle during surgery, the recovery tends to be pretty easy for most patients.
Please make sure that you are consulting with board certified plastic surgeons with experience in this procedure. (Megan Jack, MD, Boca Raton Plastic Surgeon)
Difference between a abdominoplasty and a full tummy tuck
A full abdominoplasty and tummy tuck are terms related to the same procedure which includes skin excision/removal and tightening of the muscles. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Abdominoplasty vs. Tummy tuck
These terms are used synonymously. “Abdominoplasty” is the medical term, whereas “tummy tuck” is the more common, non-medical terminology. The terms of are interchanged frequently. Either procedure can be categorized as “full “or “mini.” If you’re interested in this procedure, I recommend that you have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can explain it in great detail. (Erik Miles, MD, FACS, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)
After reviewing the photos appears that you need a full tummy tuck. A proper exam must be done to fully evaluate you. (Constance M. Barone, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
you would appear to benefit from a full tummy tuck though a full examination is really needed (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
Full or Mini tuck?
Based on the photos you provided I would recommend a full tummy tuck. This is the most common type of tummy tuck and will give you the skin removal and muscle tightening you need to get a great result. (Mahlon Kerr, MD, FACS, Austin Plastic Surgeon)
Based on your photos, it appears that you would benefit most from a full abdominoplasty as well as liposuction of the hips. Although uncommonly needed, all patients should be warned of the possibility of a small lower abdominal vertical scar from the old site of the belly button. Few patients that end up with that small scar ever have an issue with it. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for a more thorough discussion specific to your needs and goals. (Nicholas Tarola, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
Full tummy tuck
Based on your photos alone I would recommend a full tummy tuck to remove all the skin from your belly button to your pubic area. The mini-tummy tuck will not remove sufficient skin and therefore not give as nice of a contour.
The only advantage of a mini-TT is that it will not affect the look of your current belly button. Consult with a few plastic surgeons and have a good physical exam for more information. It’s difficult to say in your case based on photos alone. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Full or mini tummy tuck
You could get good results with a mini tummy tuck, but the full tuck will give you the flattest and tightest abdomen. The mini tummy tuck does not tighten skin above the belly button. The mini tuck is a shorter operation and less invasive, but is more limited in what it can achieve. I would recommend meeting a board certified plastic surgeon in your area and discussing your options. (Connie Hiers, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
