After tummy tuck swelling
Is after tummy tuck swelling normal?
It is much too early to assess the flatness of your abdomen – your current shape may be a result of a combination of: you not standing up straight yet A fluid collection (a seroma) that can be assessed by your plastic surgeon at your next visit
Bloating of your abdomen – have your bowels got back into their “regular routine” yet – this can often have an early impact on the shape of the abdomen
I am sure your plastic surgeon will be able to assess you and do whatever is needed to address any problems. Your result actually looks good, and should continue to improve with time! (Marc Pacifico, MD, FRCS(Plast), London Plastic Surgeon)
Abdominal after tummy tuck swelling is common
It’s very common to have the posture that you are assuming after tummy tuck surgery – the lordosis of your spine is creating a rounded appearance to your tummy. I think as you are able to stand taller in the next few weeks, you will see improvement in your contour.
Swelling of the soft tissues along the abdomen is also universally common. This often takes months to resolve. (Scott C. Sattler, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Swelling is common, but this is something that should be reported to your plastic surgeon’s office right away (Michael Law, MD, Raleigh-Durham Plastic Surgeon)
Seroma vs swelling after tummy tuck
Your abdomen does seem somewhat convex after a full abdominoplasty – but it is too early to tell if it is swelling or a seroma.
I would continue your proscribed postoperative care regimen and see your surgeon next week as planned. Let us know how it goes.(Robert Steely, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
