Age for plastic surgery

Age and tummy tuck plastic surgery

Your overall health is more important than your age in determining if you are a candidate for a tummy tuck plastic surgery.

The fact that you lost the amount of weight that you have and are controlling your blood pressure with medication is good.

You should have a physical exam performed and lab tests such as a CBC, Urinalysis, EKG, etc. You should also be evaluated by your regular medical doctor.

Let him/her know what procedure you are planning and if they have any questions or concerns, have your doctor contact the surgeon before the surgery. (Vincent D. Lepore, MD, San Jose Plastic Surgeon)

As the other plastic surgeon respondents have indicated, it is more your health rather than your chronological age that determines your risks and the appropriateness for plastic surgery.

I have performed tummy tucks on several women in their 70’s but have also turned away many patients much younger who were not in very good health. It would be prudent to have medical clearance obtained from your internist and/or cardiologist (if you have one) before proceeding with surgery. (Steven Turkeltaub, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)

Age and plastic surgery

The age for plastic surgery

The most important part of elective plastic surgery is safety. Overall health is much more important than age as there are some relatively young patients that are at elevated risks for complications associated with certain plastic surgery procedures. I would discuss your goals with your plastic surgeon and get a thourough medical release/check up from your primary care doctor prior to surgery. (Remus Repta, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck over age 60

Your chronological age is not nearly as important as your health history , motivation and qualoty of your skin. With proper pre – operative evaluation for any medical conditions you may have, a tummy tuck is certainly a useful and gratifying procedure for you! (Morad Tavallali, MD, Vienna Plastic Surgeon)

Your overal health is important, not your age, for a tummy tuck. You should see your primary care physician and receive medical clearance prior to surgery for an EKG, bloodwork and physical exam. Also, your blood pressure needs to be well controlled before surgery. A board certified plastic surgeon can evaluate you and make recommendations. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Not if you are healthy

The oldest patient for whom I performed a tummy tuck was 73. She had also lost a good deal of weight and was in exceptionally good health. Your health is the issue that matters the most. (John P. Di Saia, MD, Orange Plastic Surgeon)

Probably Not Too Old

Your overall health status is much more critical than your chronological age. Your medical problems sound minor BUT, your surgeon will want to do a complete history and physical and check with your medical doctor to get his/her opinion on your ability to undergo a fairly extensive and invasive procedure. Good Luck! (Brian Klink, MD, Vacaville Plastic Surgeon)
