Before and after tummy tuck

Is a Tummy Tuck necessary is would Liposuction work better?

Try 10 pounds weight loss and aggressive abdominal exercising before doing lipo surgery. (Darryl J. Blinski, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

Is a tummy tuck necessary or will liposuction work by itself?

It is difficult to give you an accurate answer without the opportunity to examine you. Here our some things for you to consider, however. If you have stretch marks it is very likely that you would be best served with a full tummy tuck. If there are significant stretch marks present liposuction itself will leave you with loose skin.

If you have a separation in the middle of your abdominal muscles a full abdominoplasty will be beneficial. In a full abdominoplasty the skin and fat layer is lifted off of the abdomen up to the belly button. The belly button is then released from the overlying skin leaving it attached to the muscle layer.

The skin and fat layer is then elevated up to the rib cage. At that time the muscle layer is exposed and can be repaired if necessary. Liposuction itself will not remove loose skin nor will it provide the opportunity to tighten the muscle layer. (John J. Edney, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)

Since you do not have a lot if skin laxity then liposuction wiuld be a great option but you have muscle separation so this needs to be repaired to give you the flat abdomen you desire. This can be done through a small incision or endoscopically. This can be discussed with your surgeon. (Constance M. Barone, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)

You appear to have some excess fat and likely some amount of loose abdominal wall muscles. Since you do not have a lot of excess skin you want to consider an endoscopic tummy tuck. (Remus Repta, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)

You are sort of a borderline patient in between the two procedures, because you don’t have that much excessive skin, but the pregnancy kind of bloated your abdomen and you lost your figure and muscle tone.

Liposuction alone is viable, but it will only give you a curvier waistline, if you don’t do a tummy tuck, your abdomen will still bulge after lipo alone as you can see it does in the side view. If you want a flat tummy, you have to go for the tummy tuck and some lipo to address your waistline curves. (Jose A. Leon, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)
