Candidate for tummy tuck surgery
Considering the time frame, some variation of the tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure may be your best option to address the loose skin.
Consult with 3 – 4 experienced and expert board certified plastic surgeons to review your options. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Tightening The Skin After Weight Loss
Although a picture gives limited information and is not as good as in-person examination, simply put you have lost the weight but the skin will not retract.
Your skin has been stretched by your pregnancies and the weight gain ultimately losing its’ elasticity (ability to snap back).
Your working out reduces the fat composition of your body and tone the muscles, but it cannot tighten the skin. This can only be done by removing the excess stretched skin such as is done in an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Judging from the picture you would possibly also benefit from liposuction.
Make sure to consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. After an in-person exam and a discussion of your goals they will be better able to make recommendations and help guide you through the process. (Pedro M. Soler, Jr., MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)
Your skin has been stretched by pregnancies and weight gain, and now the only way to reward all your effort with a tight flat tummy is a full tummy tuck. It has been 20 months since your last pregnancy, and your skin will not spring back on its own. See a board-certified plastic surgeon for a consultation and find out what is involved. (Robert M. Grenley, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Although you did a very difficult but important task of loosing 90 pounds, you will not be granted with the gift of a slim body. This is because your skin has permanently changed due to significant expansion, and it will unlikely shrink or tighten enough for you to be happy with it.
Judging from your photo, if you continued to loose weight, your excess skin might shrink a little more, but it will always double up upon itself. There are both external (non-surgical) and internal (minimally invasive) ‘gizmos’ available, however none have shown to tighten skin in any meaningful way.
You appear to be an excellent candidate for tummy tuck surgery, which might include liposuction along with the standard muscle wall tightening and skin removal portions of the surgery.
Visit a few surgeons certified by the ABPS and who are members of the ASAPS. Check out their photos and discuss all the alternative, risks, and benefits with you so you can make an informed decision. (Gerald Minniti, MD, FACS, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
A tummy tuck is the only way to make it flat. You have excess skin that undoubtedly has lost its elasticity. Some surgeons who use certain devices that claim skin tightening may suggest that a non-surgical approach is possible.
You have to remember that skin tightening produced by devices that generate energy in the form of radio frequency, laser, heat, or ultrasound do so by stimulating collagen and elastic production.
That is basically the same thing as what happens when the body responds to a wound or injury to produce scar. That means to shrink a lot of excess skin means producing a lot of collagen which can only happen with a lot of energy. In other words, the risk of excessive scarring is very high.
Bottom line, go consult with a plastic surgeon and see what variation of tummy tuck would produce the result you are looking for. He or she can also guide you in your exercise program so you do not over-do things. (Robin T.W. Yuan, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tuck Best Way To Deal With Excess Skin
I think that a tummy tuck is certainly the best, if not the only, way to deal with your excess skin. Some of the proprietary procedures claim to correct your problem, but I think you are an excellent candidate for tummy tuck surgery which is definitely your best option. (John Whitt, MD, Louisville Plastic Surgeon)
After losing that much weight and developing overhang of the abdomen, the excess skin must be excised and the musculature tightened. Tummy tuck will produce an excellent result, particularly in a patient in such good shape. (Robert L. Kraft, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Even with your wonderfull excersise never you would get the hard belly you want, you should have a tummy tuck with muscles reinforcement and lypo.
You’ve done a great job getting back in shape while managing small children – no small accomplishment! And yes, it appears an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck is likely to be the best option for getting rid of the excess skin left afterwards, you’ve made it so much easier for your plastic surgeon to do a great job for you. Patients who are not excessively overweight and are physically fit need less-extensitve surgery, so they usually have a more smooth recovery and a better result afterwards. Make sure you see a board-certified plastic surgeon and keep us posted! (David S. Martin, MD)
Good job doing most of the hard work with regaining your pre baby figure. You’ve taken it as far as you can and now it’s up to a plastic surgeon to do the rest. Nothing will get you where you likely want to be other than a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). I have seen many a young mom just run herself ragged and practically starve herself trying to avoid this most awesome and effective operation. There is no way to excercise the skin back to shape and no way to get separated rectus muscles back to the midline. (Lisa L. Sowder, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
