Cost of a tummy tuck
Prices for a tummy tuck can vary depending on which part of the country you live. I would caution anyone choosing a surgeon based on fees alone. You should always research your surgeon.
Here are a few things you should strongly consider when selecting a plastic surgeon.
After you have gone through this process, and consult with a couple of surgeons you will probably find that the one’s you feel confident with are similar in prices. But don’t just go with the one who is cheaper. Often times I find myself trying to repair some of the poor results from these “cheaper” priced surgery’s. The patient then ends up paying much more in the long run.
The tummy tuck is a common and very highly satisfying procedure for those who are good candidates. The cost can vary greatly between surgeons and also may depend on how large of a person you are and how much work is involved. The typical cost in my practice, inclusive of all costs, is around $8500 and I usually throw in lipo of the hips at no additional cost.
Tummy tucks can range from $4000 to $9000 and even higher. The fee varies with local market and between different practices. In my Miami practice our current price is about $5500. This includes anesthesia, surgery, operating room costs, and post-surgery care.
Costs for a tummy tuck will certainly vary depending on your location. Things to factor in for the tummy tuck standpoint will be the facility fee, anesthesia fee, surgeon fee, other fees (e.g., liposuction, surgical garment, etc.) A range in price ~$8000-15000 is not unreasonable. $9-11K would be a reasonable cost on average.
A consultation with a plastic surgeon will help you in determining which procedure(s) would be the right one for you. Cost also depends on the complexity of your case and how much work would need to be done to achieve an aesthetically-pleasing tummy for you.
Cost of a tummy tuck
- Is he/she board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.
- Ask to see before and after pictures
- Speak to patients of the surgeon if possible to get their first hand experience.
- Where is the surgery performed? Your surgery should be performed in certified facility for your own safety.
- Who is your anesthesiologists. Personally, if I were going to be put to sleep, I would want a board-certified anesthesiologist. So this is how I do it in my practice. This may be more costly, but well worth it. Your safety should be your sugeons primary concern.
- Overnight stay. Do they offer overnight facility with a registered nurse? That first night can be quite uncomfortable for some paitients. Some patients are prone to have nausea and vomiting after surgery. Having an experienced nurse to help care for you will make your recovery more comfortable.
- How do you feel with your plastic surgeon during your consult? You should feel comfortable with your surgeon. This is an important event you are going through with a recovery process. You should feel good about who is going to be there for you.
- Check to see if your surgeon has privileges at a hospital to perform the same procedure.
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) surgery is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures. The cost of abdominoplasty is variable and depends on several factors, including the surgeon’s fee, facility fee, and anesthesia charges. Fees in the Midwestern United States typically range between $5,000 and $8,000.
Abdominoplasty is frequently performed in combination with liposuction or as part of the Mommy Makeover. Under these circumstances, multiple procedure discounts are usually applicable.
The cost of Abdominoplasty is important, but patients should also consider their surgeon’s experience and qualifications. It is absolutely essential that you are able to communicate and have a comfort level with the surgeon who will be performing your surgery.
The cost of a tummy tuck, or any plastic surgery procedure, often depends on the particular market you are located in. In Manhattan, where I practice, the cost is much more than what I have seen a lot of doctors from other parts of the country post. Generally speaking, in New York City, a tummy tuck from a good plastic surgeon would not be less than $10,0000.
Cost aside, the most important thing is to seek out a Qualified Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to carry out the procedure and ensure you are in safe hands. At our centre in Mumbai (India), the procedure cost for a Tummy tuck (Total lipoabdominoplasty) would be approx. 3500-4000 US$ all inclusive.
Cosmetic surgery costs vary significantly from country to country. As mentioned several times on this forum tummy tuck costs are dictated by several factors such as:
- the extent of tummy tuck (skin excision,BMI etc.),
- number of areas to be addressed by liposuction for body contouring,
- total OT time /OT facilities
- hospital / clinic room costs & packages
- external devices used as adjunct (SAL,PAL,VAL etc),
- anaesthesia required,
- “experience” of the doctor,
- locality, township, state etc.
With so many variables involved, what a person defines as “Cheap” or reasonably priced, might be synonymous with good (not necessarily a gimmick / advertisement / cutting costs). Similarly what is considered “Good” (based on price) need not be extravagantly expensive /exclusive / out of reach, due to ancillary inflated costs.
Abdominoplasty is a popular plastic surgery procedure for women who wish to have a flatter stomach. In our cosmetic surgical practice, I perform liposuction as needed in the upper abdominal and flank areas for no additional cost in order to achieve the best possible cosmetic result.
Our total fee for tummy tuck varies with the amount of surgery required.
These fees vary from $4900 for a mini-tuck to $6250 for a full abdominoplasty. This includes the operating room, anesthesia, surgeon’s fee and office visits. Make certain to ask your surgeon to include the operating room and anesthesiologist fee in his (her) quote to you.
If you are active duty military or a dependent, our fees are discounted.
You may find significant variation in surgical fees from state to state and from city to city, so average fees vary quite a bit based upon geography.
A standard full tummy tuck including anesthesia, operating room fees, and surgeon cost is about 6800.00 and takes about 90 minutes.
The cost of a tummy tuck procedure can vary greatly depending on your physician, how extensive your surgery will be, the region of the country where you are having the procedure, anesthesia and operating room fees. However, typical cost of a tummy tuck procedure is $6000-$8000.
Obviously the cost will vary depending on the extent of the procedure. Doing other procedures at the same time will increase the costs, but will overall save you money. In my office we operate at a hospital based surgical center. We use board certified anesthesiologists. We spare no expenses when it comes to safety. The cost will vary between $6500-$9500.
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, can vary in cost from region to region. Furthermore, there are some different techniques that can influence price. In our area the typical cost would be $5000-7500.
The 2 primary factors that determine the overall cost of a tummy tuck are:
- the type of abdominoplasty performed (re: full vs partial/mini vs extended/body-lift)
- the degree of liposuction that is usually combined with the procedure
Each of the above dictates how long and how complicated your abdominoplasty surgery will be.
Cost can vary widely depending on the type of tummy
tuck you need, but generally speaking,
- a mini tummy tuck that addresses the small overhang of skin which can often occur after a C-section should cost a few thousand dollars.
- an extended tummy tuck/body lift (following significant weight loss) with liposuction can sometimes cost $15,000 or more, depending on hours in the OR.
- a “full” tummy tuck that entails mobilization both above and below the umbilicus, rectus placation and suctioning of the hips – usually takes about 2.5 hours to perform and costs roughly $8,500.
Other factors affecting the total cost of a full tummy tuck include:
- your geographic location (e.g. NYC vs Albany, NY)
- whether the procedure is performed in a free standing ambulatory surgical facility or an office based OR
- the experience and expertise of the surgeon
(n.b. the best way to determine a surgeon’s experience and expertise is to carefully look through their before & after photos and find out the number of times they’ve performed the procedure you’re interested in).
And last but not least is the comfort level you have with your surgeon and the quality of care they provide both before and after your procedure.
