Cost tummy tuck

A tummy tuck costs between $4,500 for a mini-tummy tuck up to around $7,000 for a full tummy tuck with liposuction of the flanks included. The prices for tummy tucks will vary greatly depending on the region of the country and whether the surgery is done in a hospital with an overnight stay or in an outpatient surgery center where you would go home after the procedure.

Tummy tucks are now commonly done as an outpatient with very good results. My patients prefer to go home and that way they are in their own bed and walking much earlier than staying in a hospital. I would recommend that you see a Plastic Surgeon who is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, costs can vary based on a number of factors. Some of these factors can include:

Cost a tummy tuck

1) Whether your surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon or another type of surgeon;
2) The experience of your surgeon;
3) The results obtained by your surgeon;
4) Whether your procedure is performed in an accredited outpatient surgery center or hospital;
5) Whether you are using a board-certified anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist to perform your anesthesia; and
6) Whether or not there is liposuction performed along with your tummy tuck, etc.

Some surgeons may perform your tummy tuck in 2 hours, others may spend 4 hours. Some surgeons may not elect to ‘tighten’ the muscles while others will.

I prefer to do a multiple layer muscle plication to achieve a firm, flat abdomen.  Additionally, I place additional ‘quilting’ sutures which ‘reattach’ the fatty layer to the muscles to help reduce tension on the incision as well as to minimize the need for drains.  Many times I do not place a drain or only place one small one for several days.

Additionally, I put much attention to the ends of the incisions to avoid any ‘dog ears’ thus minimizing the need for any revision surgery. As you can see, there are many factors involved in performing an abdominoplasty. You may find that typical surgeons fees for an abdominoplasty will range from $7500-$16000 with O.R. and anesthesia fees.

The componets of a tummy tuck include the following:

  • Skin removal from abdomen (hips and back if needed)
  • Fat removal from abdomen, hips and back
  • Muscle tightening of the Rectus Abdominis muscles
  • Umbilical hernia repair, if needed
  • Contouring of the Mons Pubis

A tummy tuck is a major operation, comparable to a C-Section or a Hysterectomy. It should be undertaken only under ideal circumstances in healthy, non-smoking individuals who are finished with child bearing. It is meant to be a permanent correction of the contour of the abdomen, therefore no pregnancies should occur after the procedure.

This can usually be performed as an outpatient in our Ambulatory Surgery Center located in our office.

There are many different modalities to treat the abdominal pouch, not all involve surgery. A tummy tuck is the Cadillac of the procedures, here is a list of the options:

  • Lower Body Lift
  • Circumferential Abdominoplasty
  • Extended Abdominoplasty
  • Full Abdomioplasty
  • Modified Abdominoplasty
  • Mini-Abdominoplasty
  • Abdominoplasty with Umbilical Float
  • Abdominoplasty with T-Closure
  • Lipoplasty
  • CoolSculpting
  • Endermologie (LPG)

The decision on what procedure to perform is based on the patient’s expectations, the surgeon’s evaluation, cost, time off of work, the patient’s health, previous abdominal scars, smoking history and the desire for future pregnancy. An in depth consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon experienced in body contouring surgeries is recommended. Sometimes a combination of the above listed procedures is needed.
