Breast Reduction for an 18 Year Old?
Breast reduction with an implant
Nov 23, 2010
There are a couple key things for you to understand about the procedure at your age.  1.  You may not be able to breast feed in the future.  2.  Your breasts may continue to grow and you may need a repeat procedure.

Depending on your breast shape you may be a candidate for a short-scar breast reduction which will give you a nice shape without the need for an implant.  I would not recommend doing both procedures at the same time.  You may…

Breast Lift Without Implants?
Various techniques for breast lifts without implants
Nov 23, 2010
There are various methods of performing breast lifts without using an implant and still get a perkier looking breast.  I recommend a technique that rearranges your own breast tissue in essence placing your own breast tissue in the same position of the implant giving you a more long lasting result.  If only skin is removed you may get a nice look initially but it is unlikely to last long.  Gravity and tension will immediately begin to stretch the skin and when the swelling…
Which Type of Breast Lift Would You Recommend?
Breast lift in large breasts
Nov 23, 2010
Because your breasts are full and heavy, I would recommend a small reduction and a lollipop-type scar lift.  I would also not simply remove skin but rearrange your breast tissue on the inside to decrease the tension on the incision line.  Too much tension will widen your scars.  Your skin looks as if it should retract well to a new breast shape instead of attempting to simply lift the breast with skin removal only.
Breast Diameter – Implant Size
The implant diameter is a very important detail
Nov 23, 2010
Seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon is the first step in getting the most reliable information available.  The surgeon will then use that knowledge in conjuction with your anatomy to give the best recommendation.  A far as the base width is concerned, the true measurement is not the actual width of your chest from the breast bone to your side but rather the base width of the actual implant that would best fit your chest wall.  You do not want an implant that would be…
Is Latisse Available in Doctors’ Offices?
Excellent results with Latisse
Nov 2, 2010
Latisse is available by prescription only but many doctors carry the product in their offices.   You many find that your plastic surgeon runs promotions that may result in Latisse being less expensive then in a pharmacy.  Your plastic surgeon will also be able to discuss the potential risks and give you specifics on what to expect.
Pixie Ear Repair
Correction of a pixie ear deformity
Nov 2, 2010
A pixie ear deformity typically results from excessive tension on the suture line following a facelift procedure.   The way to correct the deformity depends on the severity of the deformity.  If it is minor than a local revision can be performed in the office setting to match the other ear.  If, however, the deformity is severe then a secondary facelift or mini-facelift will be required.
Alloderm for Breast Reconstruction?
Alloderm in Expander Breast Reconstruction
Nov 2, 2010
When placing an expander for breast reconstruction, I universally use Alloderm (or other human-derived dermal matrix).  The innovation of using this material in breast reconstruction has enabled the plastic surgeon to place more fluid immediately in the expander which lessens the number of post-operative visits for fills.

The pain/discomfort during the filling process is also markedly reduced because the muscle is not streched nearly to the degree as it is without Alloderm. …

Will I Be Able to Close my Eyes After Eyelid Surgery?
Preventing removing too much skin in eyelid surgery
Nov 2, 2010
The last thing one wants when undergoing a cosmetic procedure is to end up with a complication.  In upper eyelid surgery, removing too much skin that results in the inability to fully close the eye should be avoided at all costs.  I use a "pinch" technique to aid in marking the excess skin that determines the amount of skin that can be safely removed.

If you are unable to close the eye fully after surgery it is usually temporary.  If it does not resolve then…

When Will I Feel Normal After Full Tummy Tuck?
Recovery from an Abdominoplasty/Lipo/Augmentation Mastopexy
Nov 2, 2010
The recovery from a straight abdominoplasty is 2-3 weeks and back to the gym in 4-6 weeks typically.  When adding other procedures, the recovery may be longer especially in light of your complications.   Being anemic enough to require transfusions as well as an overlying infection will drain you of energy.  Trust your plastic surgeon to get you through this time and be patient.  It may be up to 3 months before you're feeling like yourself again.
How Long Do Breast Implants Last?
Life span of breast implants
Nov 2, 2010
There is no absolute definitive answer to the question but many will say approximately 10 years.  The new outer shells of both the silicone and saline implants have improved markedly over the years.  The silicone implant shell, however, is superior and may prove to be more durable than the saline implants over time.  The FDA recommends that the silicone implants be replaced at 10 years but this is just a recommendation and not a requirement.
How does Botox work?
How Botox affects wrinkles
Apr 2, 2010
Botox does not act directly on the skin wrinkles but rather muscles of facial expression which cause the wrinkles. Botox temporarily blocks nerves from communicating with the muscle resulting in relaxation. Muscles have a resting tone, which means that even when they’re not activated there is some level of tightness at rest. When the muscles maximally relax with Botox, the overlying skin smooths out resulting in less prominent wrinkles.
Which Blepharoplasty surgery technique works best?
Approaches to lower eyelid surgeries
Apr 2, 2010
The lower eyelids must be evaluated in terms of excess skin, protruding fat pads (bags), and laxity of the eyelid.  Only after properly assessing these issues, can the best approach be determined.
It appears that your concern may be fullness of the lower eyelids without excess skin.  Fat transposition is a good option because it does not result in a hollowed out look and uses the local fat to fill in the depression beneath the bags.  In essence it…
Tummy tuck scars visible after 1 year
Tummy tuck scars may be hidden well
Apr 2, 2010
In order to remove the excess skin with a tummy tuck there will be a scar located at the level of the pubic area with variable lengths. Although every effort is made to minimize the scar, there are times when the tummy tuck scar is not favorable and requires silicone sheeting or injections with steroids.
This is in large part caused by the way the person heals. The vast majority of times the scar can be hidden by a bikini because of the low scar placement. It’s important to discuss all…
Can I get implants (subpectorally) even though I had implants removed?
Repeating submuscular breast augmentation
Apr 2, 2010
After 8 years, the scar tissue joining your muscle to your chest wall will have softened allowing your surgeon to place the implants under the muscle. Even if the scar tissue is prevalant, a new plane may be made between the muscle and the old scar tissue, in essence starting from scratch. In the vast number of cases, a subpectoral placement is superior therefore don’t hesitate to go that route if your surgeon feels that’s best for you.
Breast reduction and lift
A breast reductions lift the breast
Nov 28, 2009
There are a number different types of breast reductions. All reductions, however, result in a breast lift. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a redetermined location fit for your body. The excess skin, breast tissue, and fat are then removed from each breast giving you good overall volume symmetry and shape.
I often perform a short scar breast reduction (vertical reduction) which I feel lessens the scar length and provides the best shape.
