Is There Any Exercise to Fllaten the Pubis Area After a Tummy Tuck?
Enlarged Pubic Area
Jun 8, 2011
While recovering from an abdominoplasty or a TRAM breast reconstruction, the pubic area and genitals can remain swollen for some time, due to their dependent positions. If retained fluid is the cause of this pubic swelling, the edema will resolve in time and no exercises will speed up this process. Massage and support garments may help control and reduce swelling, but sufficient time to heal is essential. If you are many months out from the procedure, this prominence is...
5’2, 125lbs, Currently 32C/D: is 400CC to Large for a Runner?
400 cc and a lift
Jun 6, 2011
Yes, a 400 cc augmentation with or without a lift is quite large on a smaller person like yourself. This size increase may also affect your comfort while running. It's very difficult to discuss cup sizes without photos or an exam, but you would certainly gain at least 2 cup sizes with 400 cc implants. I recommend you spend more time with sizers in a surgeon's office before signing up.
How Can You Determine if Fat is Abdominal or Not?
Intra-abdominal vs Subcutaneous Fat
May 29, 2011
Intra-abdominal fat cannot be removed by either liposuction or tummy tuck. Only subcutaneous fat can be removed with these procedures. Subcutaneous fat can be pinched when you tighten your abdominal muscles, intra-abdominal fat cannot. This simple exam determines who is a good candidate for these abdominal procedures. A patient with a distended abdomen due to large amounts of intra-abdominal fat will not have a good result from either liposuction or a tummy tuck....
Removing Belly Button for Diastasis Repair Necessary?
Belly Button Removal
May 29, 2011
The belly button should be able to be preserved during a rectus diastasis repair unless the umbilical hernia you describe is extremely large and/or other surgical scars are present at the belly button. Have you had other umbilical hernia repairs or laparoscopic procedures in the past? Mesh seems unnecessary unless this hernia is more complicated than you describe.
Multiple Garments After Liposuction Because of Medical Issues?
Liposuction and Hidradenitis
May 29, 2011
Don't get liposuction in the face of any ongoing HS infection! This would be an unnecessary risk for a soft tissue infection. As for recovery and garment use, garments seem to control swelling and most patients feel less vulnerable when their tender areas are covered. Garments do not change the final result. In your situation, simplicity is key. I would recommend a mere binder for the abdomen and flanks and a sports bra for the bra region. Either can...
Will I Have Loose Skin After Liposuction?
Skin Laxity Following Liposuction
May 29, 2011
Redundant skin after liposuction is a concern when the skin elasticity is poor. Stretch marks are a major contributor to poor skin elasticity and recoil. Advanced age doesn't help either. Your surgeon likely has concerns about your skin quality and should be able to state why he or she is so concerned. Do you have loose, redundant skin in the upper abdomen now, in the "full" state? Is the belly button readily visible? Truly redundant skin...
Does Liposuction to the Upper Abdomen Prior to a Full Tummy Tuck Give a Better Result?
Lipoabdominoplasty
May 29, 2011
I perform liposuction during tummy tucks on virtually all my patients, including liposuction in the upper abdomen. Once considered an unacceptable risk, combining these procedures has become mainstream and perfectly acceptable so long as the surgeon adjusts his or her technique to maintain adequate blood flow to the abdominal wall tissues. Staging the procedures is fine but this adds significant cost to the final result.
How Much Weight Can I Lose After Liposuction?
Liposuction Weight Loss
May 29, 2011
Liposuction is not a weight loss tool. Instead, liposuction is meant to improve problem areas resistant to diet and exercise. There is no clear endpoint when the patient is markedly overweight and the results are almost always very disappointing to both the patient and the surgeon. Although it may seem motivating to undergo liposuction first as one begins a life changing exercise and weight loss program, the investment is much more prudent and meaningful when the patient is...
Difference Between Anesthetist and Anesthesiologist?
Anesthesiologist vs Nurse Anesthetist
May 29, 2011
Anesthesiologists are physicians and anesthetists are nurses with advanced (and usually quite good) education and training. State law dictates whether or not nurses can work alone, without anesthesiologists, and the operating surgeon supervises them when an anesthesiologist is not mandated. Most hospitals and facilities use a combination of both to control costs. My feeling is that healthy patients almost always do well with either because the risk is so low to begin with....
Is Restylane Best for Marionette Lines?
Marionette Line Treatment
May 29, 2011
Judgment of Marionette Line significance is best performed without smiling. At 35, yours are probably such early changes that virtually any filler will do the trick. I tend to use Radiesse because it is more cost-effective over time, particularly when the sole issue is volume. Hope this helps.
How Many Syringes of Restylane for Long Tear Troughs?
Long Tear Troughs
May 29, 2011
One syringe of Restylane should be sufficient to treat your tear troughs. Deciding between a 1 ml or 0.5 ml syringe is hard to judge from the photos. For the lower face, Radiesse 1.5 ml or 0.8 ml will likely be sufficient in a 28 yo without significant facial aging changes. I find Radiesse in the lower face to be more long-lasting and a better value. Hope this helps.
Risky to Use Both Restylane and Juvederm?
Combining Fillers
May 29, 2011
Using a combination of dermal fillers as you describe is perfectly safe and appropriate. This particular plan exploits the subtle differences amongst available products and is a very sound treatment strategy.
Can 300cc or 275cc Breast Implants Give Same Effect As 325cc?
275 vs 325 cc?
May 29, 2011
With silicone implants, most of my patients with relatively narrow chest walls like yours prefer High Profile implants when the volume gets over 300 cc or so (Mentor). The appearance is more sleek and youthful. My patients and I do see the subtle differences 25 cc can make, not to mention 50 cc changes. Overall, it seems that you have not spent enough time with implant sizers to solidify your goals.
Naturally Looking Full C Cup with 400cc Silicone Breast Implants?
Natural C Cup
May 29, 2011
There will be absolutely nothing natural-looking about a 400 cc M+ silicone breast implant on your very lean frame! With a size 32 chest/bra, cup size increases rapidly with even modest volume increases. Larger M+ silicone implants will be too wide for your native breast width, imparting a matronly look to your breasts. Further, these wider implants will encroach upon the armpit area because the implant has to go somewhere. Increasing the volume will most...
Silicone More Natural Looking Than Saline. Fact or Myth?
Saline vs Silicone
May 29, 2011
In thin patients like yourself, I place all implants in the submuscular plane. Silicone breast implants definitely feel softer than breast implants. Regarding appearance, both implants look similar but saline implants have been known to continue dropping over time, often dropping too much, whereas silicone implants seem to behave better over time. Issues such as rippling and edge palpability are much more common with saline implants. I also prefer the breast...
