However, I require clearance from their primary care provider who manages their diabetes and I make sure that their diabetes is well controlled with glucose ranges normal. Hello and thanks for your question. The options to quit smoking are chantix (medication), cold turkey, or weaning with vape pens or patches. It is very important to be nicotine free for a few weeks before your mommy makeover to decrease your chance of complications. The nicotine itself is the issue - so any nicotine containing product needs to weaned off to zero. If you like, your primary care physician can offer programs to help you in your attempt at nicotine cessation.

Hello and thank you for your question. Yes, it is possible to perform a breast augmentation under local anesthesia. It has the benefit of avoiding the nausea associated with general anesthesia as well as any other side effects of general anesthesia. However, even in the most experienced hands, there is some discomfort experienced with augmentation under local. I recommend meeting with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss the different modalities possible for sedation.

Hello and thank you for your question. In my experience there are no measures that can be done by the patient to prevent a keloid. Keloids tend to result when there is tension on the suture line. Therefore, to minimize the risk, the surgeon should choose an implant that is not so large as to place tension/stretch on the incision to be closed. However, in general, results are always best and optimized and safety is optimized when you are within 10 lbs of your goal weight. Ideally, this goal weight is close to a BMI of 30. In my practice, I recommend patients obtain their goal/ideal weight and remain so for 6 months prior to surgery. I also communicate with your bariatric surgeon to make sure you vitamin levels and lab work is stable and at optimal levels in order to ensure proper wound healing.
