I am 14 days post op tummy tuck. Belly button slightly black
Tummy Tuck – Black Belly Button
Aug 9, 2018
Thank you for your question and your photo. Based on your photo it looks like you either have some scabs, dried blood or a small amount of skin turning black. I don’t see any sutures but it could just be the photo. None of these are particularly worrisome and will resolve with time. It is best that you see your surgeon in person so that you can be examined to determine exactly what is going on. Keep an eye out for any redness, swelling or increasing pain and let your surgeon know…
When does the tape on top of the stitches get removed?
Tummy Tuck Tape Removal
Aug 9, 2018
Thanks for your question. The tape is usually removed after a few days or a couple weeks depending on your surgeon’s preferences. I would encourage you to touch base with your surgeon and ask. Personally I leave tape or steristrips on until they fall off which is usually about a week or so. Good luck!
Should I stop smoking before my TT?
Should I stop smoking before my TT?
May 2, 2016
Thank you for your question. I strongly recommend that you stop smoking and all products containing nicotine both before your procedure and afterward. The nicotine in cigarette smoke reduces blood flow to the skin and can lead to complication such as delayed wound healing, wound opening, infection, etc. Every surgeon has their own specific requirements regarding smoking. I tell patient to stop all nicotine containing products for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to surgery and for a minimum of 4…
Was anyone told they were too fat for a Tummy Tuck?
Was anyone told they were too fat for a Tummy Tuck?
May 2, 2016
Thank you for your question. A tummy tuck or abdminoplasty has the best results when you are close to your desired weight. You surgeon will be able to better predict what you final outcome will be is you are near your weight loss goal. As you mentioned, the procedure can help you lose additional weight after surgery by “kick starting” you. However if you lose additional weight you may have additional skin that you may want removed. Also, additional weight loss reduces complications such as…

Is this normal bleeding expected after a breast augmentation?
Mar 4, 2016
Thank you for your question and posting your photos. Based on your photos, you are experiencing a normal amount of bleeding after breast augmentation. I encourage you to follow you surgeons post-operative instructions and contact them if your drainage continues or increases. Hope this helps and good luck.

Double bubble or bottoming out?? Should I be worried?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your questions and sharing your photos. Based on your photos it does not appear that you have a double bubble or are bottoming out. You are still very early in the healing process. You may continue to notice changes over the next few weeks to months. I recommend that you stay in close contact with your surgeon and discuss your specific concerns. Hope this helps and good luck.

I want a natural look without looking heavy on top. What is the ideal implant for my body type?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question. Selecting implant size and shape can be confusing. There are a ton of options. In person examination and consultation with measurements is essential in picking the right implant. Once a size is recommended it is important that you “try it on” and make sure you are pleased with how it looks. It is important to keep in mind the impact of the implant on your soft tissues. Overly large implants can lead to complications. I recommend seeing a plastic surgeon for in…

Would it be possible for me to get a breast augmentation without a lift while achieving this look?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question and posting photos. A breast augmentation may give the appearance of a slight breast lift. Based on your photos alone it is difficult to tell if this would give you the result that you are looking for. I recommend in person consultation with a plastic surgeon to evaluate your anatomy and skin elasticity and to address your specific concerns. Selecting bigger implants to simulate a breast lift can often lead to complications if your tissues can not support the…

My gap between breast is too much and I want to know that whether is there any treatment to reduce gap?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question. Breast augmentation is a great way to enhance your natural breast shape. The procedure will change a lot of your anatomy but it will not change the gap between your breast. Each breast has a natural “foot print” or foundation. Aggressive attempts at manipulation of the foundation carries a high chance for complication. Trying to reduce the gap between the breasts can lead to symmastia or “uniboob”. The right push-up bra may address your concerns. I recommend…

Recent breast surgery. My implant is painful & hard. Any suggestions?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question and for posting your photos. Based on your photos, I agree that your result is not ideal. There are many potential causes for this outcome including capsular contracture (tight scar tissue around the implant) or an implant that is inappropriately positioned. While there may be some changes as more time passes from your procedure, it is unlikely that they will be significant enough to address your concerns. I recommend that you stay in close contact with your…
Trying to quit smoking cigarettes before BA. Is it safer to use an e-cigarette, patch or gum?
Trying to quit smoking cigarettes before BA. Is it safer to use an e-cigarette, patch or gum?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question. Quitting smoking will be the best thing you can do for your overall health. I applaud you for beginning the process. It is the nicotine component of cigarettes that can lead to complications after surgery. Nicotine impairs blood flow and can lead to delayed healing, incision breakdown, infections, etc. Many of the patches, gums, and e-cigarettes still contain nicotine. It is best to avoid anything with nicotine before surgery to reduce you risk of complications….
Am I healing normally?
Am I healing normally?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question and for posting a photo. It is common to have different sensations on each breast after augmentation. Based on your photos, everything seems to be healing normally. I recommend staying in close contact with you surgeon throughout the recovery process to ensure that everything healing appropriately. You may notice changes in your breast over the next few weeks to months as your soft tissues stretch and your implants settle into the pocket. Hope this helps and good…

I have found a lump next to my BA scar. What might this be?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question and posting the photos. Based on your photos, that lump is most likely a buried suture. If this is an absorbable suture it will likely resolve over the next few weeks to months. I recommend visiting with your surgeon and having this area evaluate in person. Hope this help and good luck.

2 days post op breast augmentation unders dual plane on pics. Breast high and swollen. Is this normal?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question and for posting the photos. Immediately after breast augmentation the implants are often high and there is swelling of the breasts. Based on your photos it appears that this is what you are experiencing. Over the next few weeks to months, as your soft tissue stretch, you will notice that the swelling is improving and the implants will “drop.” I recommend staying in close contact with your surgeon throughout the recovery process. It may take 6 months or even a year…
Can a tummy tuck be harmful to a bladder sling?
Can a tummy tuck be harmful to a bladder sling?
Feb 8, 2016
Thank you for your question. A “tummy tuck” should not change the function of your bladder sling. A “tummy tuck” or abdominoplasty involves removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightening the abdominal wall. Bladder slings are usually placed inside the abdomen add should be well protected during surgery. I recommend consulting with a plastic surgeon to discuss your specific concerns regarding your sling. Hope this helps and good luck.
