I'm 24 hours post under the muscle breast augmentation and having shortness of breath when I walk.
Shortness of Breath with Breast Augmentation
Mar 14, 2016
Thank you for your question. It is always best to call your plastic surgeon immediately and let them decide the best course of action. It is often due to several reasons (implant causing pressure, pain, anxiety) but can also be much more serious such as pulmonary embolism (PE or blood clot to lung), irregular heartbeat, or pneumothorax (collapsed lung) among others. For this reason, it is important to always call your plastic surgeon with any of these symptoms.Best of luck,
Two weeks post breast surgery and I have a lot of pain in the side of my boob. What's causing it?
breast augmentation pain
Nov 6, 2015
Thank you for your question. You are still in the "early days" of your postoperative recovery. Although things may already look fine on the outside, your breasts are still healing on the inside. Pain, burning, tingling, swelling and tightness are very common, especially on the outer portion of the breast during the early postoperative period. This will subside as your breasts and skin stretch to accommodate the increased volume of the breast implant. If you have any questions,...
My PS told me not to massage my implants ! Isn't massaging necessary ?
breast implant massage
Sep 23, 2015
Thank you for your question. The latest generation of textured silicone gel implants do not require massaging. You are still very early in the postoperative period. As the skin and breast tissue swelling goes down, it gently stretches over time. The breast shape will become more natural and much softer. As always, if you have any concerns, contact your board-certified plastic surgeon. Enjoy you new breasts!

Weight lifting after breast augmentation
Sep 19, 2015
Thank you for your question. Congratulations on your fitness! The critical period for healing after breast augmentation surgery is the first 6 weeks after your procedure. The pocket created during surgery for your implant will form and heal. Afterwards, we always advise our patients to avoid any exercise which will isolate the pectoralis muscle - this will tend to push your implants laterally towards your armpits over time. This will decrease your central cleavage and can be a very difficult...
Mother of 4, nursed 3, want bigger breasts. Would implants alone be a good idea?
Breast augmentation and lift
Sep 18, 2015
Thank you for your question. Your breasts are typical of a breast-feeding mother. A breast augmentation will fill your lost volume, but will only lift the nipple slightly as it projects off of the chest wall. Often, some type of lift procedure is required to place the nipple in the optimal position on the new augmented breast mound. There are some breast lift procedures that involve minimal scarring. A detailed consultation with your plastic surgeon should answer all of your questions.Best...

Pain after breast augmentation
Sep 18, 2015
Thank you for your question. You are still early in the healing process at 3 weeks. It is not unusual to have pain associated with movement, especially in the outer part of the breast. We frequently will place our patients on a muscle relaxer such as Flexeril for the first 1-2 weeks to help with the muscle spasticity that occurs from stretching. I also will underdissect the outer breast pocket to help keep your breast cleavage centralized during the healing process - the...
Returning to work as a RN after breast augmentation. How long should I take off?
Time off work after breast augmentation, RN
Sep 16, 2015
Thank you for your question. We perform many breast augmentation surgeries on local RN's. They typically take one week off of work. Strenuous activities, such as patient lifting, are best not performed for 3 weeks after surgery.Upon their return, coworkers will frequently assist them the first couple weeks afterwards. Return to full activity is usually 4 - 6 weeks.Best of luck with your surgery!
Bronchitis 2 weeks before breast augmentation?
Bronchitis with breast augmentation
Aug 24, 2015
Thank you for your question. It is always important to be completely honest with your plastic surgeon so that they can safely perform your surgery and obtain an excellent result. Your bronchitis may clear by your anticipated surgery date, but ultimately, it is up to you and your surgeon to determine if it is best to proceed. Most plastic surgeons, including myself, will not perform elective cosmetic surgery on smokers. There are numerous studies demonstrating the detrimental effects of...

How long do I wear a breast strap after breast augmentation
Feb 3, 2015
Thank you for your question. It is always best to be compliant and follow your plastic surgeon's instructions. Some surgeons will use an upper pole strap in the early postoperative phase to encourage the implant to drop. As the swelling subsides, the implants will drop and the lower pole of the breast will round out. Best of luck.

You will know exactly what injection you had performed and you will have a baseline for future injections. The injections typically last 3 - 6 months, but recent studies have shown that with...

I would refrain from any vigorous activity such as lengthy swims or surfing for another 2 - 4 weeks. I also caution my patients to be especially careful to apply 30+ SPF sunscreen, as your chest and breast are much more sensitive to sunburn during this healing phase. As always, consult with your surgeon if you have any questions. Good luck and enjoy your new...
