Pigmentation treatment that won’t impact facial hair?
Safe Laser Skin Improvement in Areas with Hair
Feb 4, 2023
You are correct that IPL / BBL are great for skin improvement but can result in permanent hair loss. In our clinic our favorite treatment for hair-bearing regions (which also includes sun damage within brows, hairline and even the scalp, where quite often men have not only pigment but also precancers) is Halo by Sciton. It is a fractional hybrid laser with two wavelengths to improve both superficial pigment and for deeper collagen building.
Which procedure can help improve the appearance of burn scars caused by IPL in the arm area? 1 year
Evening out Skin Tone 1 Year Post IPL scars
Dec 8, 2022
First off, so sorry that you had this experience. IPL is often seen as an uncomplicated ‘spa’ type treatment and delegated to staff with less experience, but in truth requires more experience than pretty much any other laser treatment and is very easy to get wrong, especially on the body. It’s a shame, because when done well it can offer amazing rejuvenation.

The skin on your arms is much thinner than your face and usually requires gentler settings, especially if there is sun damage present…

Are micro laser peels effective for ice pick acne scars and dents?
MicroLaserPeel for Ice Pick / Acne Scars
Nov 5, 2022
Sadly no. Treatments like MicroLaserPeels or even deeper full field resurfacing rarely improves and sometimes worsens the appearance of these kind of scars. Many of them are actually wider in the deeper layers of the skin and when you remove the surface, they can look broader or worse. These issues usually respond best to fractional treatments like Halo and ProFractional which remove some of the scar tissue and encourage it to be replaced with new, healthier collagen.
How long on average does BroadBand Light (BBL) last?
Laser Skin Improvement is Forever!
Sep 1, 2022
Great question! Actually, the effects of BBL and other laser resurfacing like Halo or Moxie is permanent – it’s why it’s a better value than something like Botox that wears off for many patients. If you remove a specific brown spot, the pigment in the skin in that spot comes to the surface and falls off – it is no longer in your skin. BBL is also about a lot more than just brown spots – it slows aging.

However, every one of us is accumulating both new sun damage, but more importantly aging…

Should I get a laser peel before my facelift surgery?
Laser Skin Improvement before Surgery
Apr 14, 2022
Great question and absolutely – the past president of the biggest group of plastic surgeons in the US has been public with his belief that all patients should do skin improvement before facial surgery so their skin is as healthy as possible and potentially there is even less pulling to do.

Think of lasers and your skin as like exercise. Regular BBL (BroadBandLight) and lasers stimulate your skin to make new collagen and be healthier, improving how it ages. Doing some improvement before your…

Dermablate full skin resurfacing for melasma and under eye fatty deposits – am I a good candidate? (
Full Field Resurfacing in Asian Skin / Melasma
Mar 8, 2022
Thanks for doing your research and please proceed with precaution. Resurfacing of any sort, but particularly fully ablative comes with very serious risks of hyperpigmentation in Asian skin and patients with melasma. Darker skin types can also end up with irreversible hypopigmentation.

Many patient find that a surgical blepharoplasty has similar or easier healing and far less risk of complications – please get a few consultations with specialists in Asian skin and eyelid concerns.

Treatment for actinic and seborrheic keratosis? BBL, Photofractional?
Actinic Keratosis / Keratoses and Seborrheic Keratosis Treatment Options
Feb 19, 2022
The first place I would start is asking the dermatologist who diagnosed you what they would recommend as they are the one who is looking at both your lesions and your skin – both are unique to you.

BBL is a great treatment for brown spots from sun damage, reds and antiaging, but the last time I reviewed the literature there wasn’t much or any data approving it for precancerous or cancerous lesions and it will not work for SK’s – one of the most frequent causes of patient disappointment with…
