Answer Snippet
What's the best option; implants over or under the muscle?
Implants Above or Beneath the Muscle
Apr 11, 2015
Based on the information you have provided I would recommend placement of the implants underneath the muscle. The muscle is likely to provide extra coverage over the implant which is especially important in slim women starting out with A cup breasts. There is also a lower rate of capsular contracture when implants are placed under the muscle. In addition, placement under the muscle will make your future mammograms easier to interpret. Good luck and make sure to consult with a...
After a breast augmentation under the muscle, when will I be 100 percent cleared to work in a fast pa
Activity After Breast Augmentation
Apr 5, 2015
Patients that have their breast implants placed underneath the pectoralis muscle can typically begin heavier lifting and strenuous activity at approximately 4-6 weeks but this time frame varies for each patient. It is a good idea that you are seeing your plastic surgeon as he/she is best qualified to to help you make this decision.
Can steristrips be left on for too long following breast lift and augmentation?
Steri-Strips After Surgery
Mar 28, 2015
As long as the steri-strips are relatively clean and there have been no wound healing issues, keeping them in place for an extra 2 weeks is unlikely to cause a problem. For body contouring procedures I recommend that patients keep steri-strips in place for approximately 3 weeks. They are changed if they start peeling off or if they become soiled. Good luck and hope that helps.
Can a Tummy Tuck help even if I have stretch marks ABOVE my belly button?
Stretch Marks After Tummy Tuck
Feb 28, 2015
Congratulations on losing 70 pounds in one year! During a tummy tuck the skin and stretch marks are removed from the lower abdomen. If there are upper abdominal stretch marks they will be moved down to the lower abdomen. While they generally do not disappear, they may look less noticeable since the skin is on stretch. Good luck.
I had a Tummy tuck on the 20th, can I take magnesium citrate to help me go to the bathroom for consti
Treatment for Post Tummy Tuck Constipation
Feb 28, 2015
Constipation after any surgical procedure results from many causes including anesthesia, pain medication, and possibly anti-nausea medication. Magnesium citrate can effectively and rapidly treat constipation, however I generally prefer MiraLAX as a first choice since it works much more gently. Good luck.
Vacation after Tummy tuck - safety?
Timing of Vacation After Tummy Tuck
Feb 28, 2015
Congratulations on scheduling your tummy tuck. Assuming your recovery goes as planned, most patients are able to do low impact aerobic activity and swimming by 11 weeks. At that time, I would still avoid strain to your abdominal muscles. I would of course recommend speaking the your plastic surgeon since he or she is uniquely qualified to help with this decision.
Can breast implant exchange after 5 weeks post bilateral masectomy be done before chemo starts?
Timing of Tissue Expander Exchange for Permanent Implants
Feb 28, 2015
If the tissue expansion process is completed, you should be able to proceed with the second stage of your breast reconstruction, the exchange of the tissue expanders for permanent implants. I would suggest that you undergo this procedure as soon as possible though to allow for complete healing prior to beginning chemotherapy. It is best to involve both your plastic surgeon and oncologist in the decision making, since there is always a possibility the chemotherapy may be delayed if your...
How long after a lower body lift can I start running again?
Exercise After A Lower Body Lift
Feb 22, 2015
Sissy, congratulations on your surgery and recovery! It is impressive that you have made great progress getting back to your workout regimen. I would hold off on jogging or running for another month or so if you are experiencing pain. Try to build up more strength with the other activities that you are tolerating well. Pushing yourself to do more strenuous activities may be putting direct pressure on the healing scar. You are better off giving the...
2 weeks post op Breast Augmentation. When can I start to sleep flat on my back?
Sleeping Position After Breast Augmentation
Feb 21, 2015
Many surgeons have their patients sleep on an angle after breast augmentation to minimize swelling. In general, I allow my patients to sleep flat or on their sides after a week. I would recommend that you ask your surgeon prior to doing anything differently. Every surgeon has his or her own post-op regimen. Good luck!
Can you go to a tanning bed with implants and how long after getting them done do you have to wait?
Tanning Beds After Breast Augmentation
Feb 21, 2015
I would avoid a tanning bed for at least 1-2 months after breast surgery since the breast skin may have diminished sensation initially. As far as the scars go, I would strongly suggest keeping them covered with surgical tape for at least six months and after that with a broad spectrum sunscreen. New scars that have unprotected sun or UVA/UVB exposure tend to darken and this can be permanent. Hope that helps.
Should I get a tummy tuck?
Tummy Tuck And Implant Exchange Performed Together
Feb 21, 2015
Based on the photos you have submitted, you would be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. The tummy tuck will remove the excess abdominal skin and tighten the abdominal muscles. The tradeoff is the scar which may run from hip to hip. In patients that are in overall good health, it is not uncommon to combine a tummy tuck with breast surgery. I would strongly recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon for a complete evaluation. Congratulations on...
What are good sites to get a garment for my tummy tuck and Brazilian butt lift?
Post-Surgical Garments
Sep 13, 2014
We have been using garments from Design Veronique for many years and our patients have been quite pleased. They are located in California and their website is designveronique.com. I am sure they have a garment that will incorporate both of your procedures. Good luck!
Is it safe to have a baby after having a Tummy Tuck?
Pregnancy After A Tummy Tuck
Aug 27, 2014
Yes, it is still safe to become pregnant after a tummy tuck. However, the pregnancy is likely to affect the aesthetic result of the tummy tuck since the skin and muscles will be stretched for a prolonged period of time. Most patients are discouraged from having a tummy tuck if they are considering pregnancy in the near future.
How soon can I stand straight up post tummy tuck?
When To Stand Up Straight After A Tummy Tuck
Aug 27, 2014
Most patients are standing up straight by 1-3 weeks depending on how much laxity remains after skin removal and muscle tightening. for the first week, patients are allowed to remain in a position that feels comfortable for them. By 2 weeks, if a patient is still not making progress with their posture, they are encouraged to gradually stand a little straighter everyday. Good luck!
What sort of Abdominoplasty procedure would be best?
Good Candidate for a Full Tummy Tuck
Mar 12, 2014
Based on your photos showing stretch marks and skin laxity above the level of your belly button, you would be a good candidate to have a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Since you given birth to at least one child you would probably benefit from at least a minor muscle repair even though your muscles have returned to normal. A mini-tummy tuck is unlikely to give you the best result since it will only address the skin and muscle in the lower abdomen and your laxity is present...
