Do I Weigh Too Much for a Tummy Tuck?
weight stability is important
Apr 26, 2011
There is no set height and weight a patient needs to attain before qualifying for tummy tuck surgery. While it's best for patient to be as close to their ideal body weight prior to surgery, this is not always practical. I think it's more important to me at a stable weight when pursuing cosmetic body recontouring than at a specific weight. The way the procedure is performed may vary a little bit depending upon where that weight stability occurs. Patients that have more residual fat…
Is 375CC Too Big for my Body?
implant profile as important as implant size
Apr 26, 2011
Two things are important to consider when selecting an implant. Certainly, implant volume is very important in determining cup size. The profile of the implant, however, is also important as this can affect the overall appearance of the breast and how natural they may look. The general concept is to match the base width of the implant to the breast width. An implant that is too wide will give too much fullness out under the armpit while an implant that is too narrow will be equally out of…
100+ Pound Loss, Apple Shape, Stubborn Back/Stomach Fat: LBL or LBL with Anchor?
All lower body lifts are not the same
Apr 26, 2011
The changes that occur to one's body following massive weight loss are highly variable depending upon your own body type and fat distribution. These differences need to be accounted for in the planning of the lower body lift procedure. Patients will often have horizontal as well as vertical skin excess which may require the fleur-de-lis approach. This needs to be determined on a case-by-case basis. There is no one approach that fits all patients and this is where the experience of your…
Tumescent liposuction vs. Liposuction surgery
Tumescent liposuction is normal liposuction
Nov 28, 2009
Tumescent liposuction has been the gold standard for liposuction for the past 20 years. This procedure involves injecting large volumes of a dilute anesthetic solution to facilitate fat removal with a minimum degree of discomfort and blood loss. Nearly all current techniques to include laser liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction, power assisted liposuction, Vaser liposuction use tumescent technique as a component of the procedure.
These added devices facilitate more rapid removal of fat as…
Lower body lift or a combination of other surgery and treatments?
Consult a qualified surgeon
Nov 28, 2009
Lower body lift procedures provide some of the most dramatic changes for massive weight loss patients. It is difficult to make suggestions without seeing addition photo views but my first impressions of your situation are as follows. You don’t appear to have the degree of skin laxity typically seen in most lower body lift patients. Depending upon what you examination demonstrates, I suspect that an abdominoplasty could be combined with liposuction of the thighs.
Fat obtained from the…
Lower Body Lift Doctor Recommendation
Use your support network to find lower body lift doctor
Nov 28, 2009
Even though it has been sometime since your bariatric surgery, I would encourage you to speak with others in local bariatric support networks. Many individuals in your area have gone through the same process of determining which surgeon is best for them so best make use of their experience.
Personal recommendations tend to be the most valuable since you are getting a perspective from someone sharing the same experience as you. Speak with your bariatric surgeon as well, but look to other…
Do plastic surgeons tailor Tummy Tuck for patient’s specific needs?
All plastic surgeries must be tailored to patient’s needs
Nov 28, 2009
All plastic surgery procedures must be tailored to the needs of the patient. Everyone’s body is different and will therefore require different surgical procedures to obtain the optimal outcome. This is true for all plastic surgical procedures including tummy tuck surgery.
Every woman has a unique body shape. Tailoring the procedure to the individual allows one to obtain the best possible result each time. This includes variations in incision placement, muscle tightening, addition of…
Liposuction recovery
Liposuction recovery varies with the procedure
Nov 28, 2009
Recovery from liposuction will vary somewhat depending upon the extent of the procedure performed. Limited liposuction procedures may only require a few days while more extensive procedures may require 1-2 weeks. While the visible incisions from liposuction are quite small, most of the recovery derives from the extent of the areas treated.
This "minor" surgery can cause dramatic shifts in your body chemistry requiring extended recovery periods. Once you have returned to normal…
Insurance coverage for muscle repair from c-sections damage?
Hernia or not
Oct 2, 2009
Insurance companies will provide coverage for repair of an abdominal wall hernia if one exists. More commonly, however, there is not hernia but a weakness in the abdominal wall called a rectus diastasis. While this may be distressing it posed not health concerns and is therefore not a deformity typically covered by you health insurance provider. As for performing a tummy tuck when an abdominal wall hernia is repaired, this is certainly feasible and often convenient. Its repair, however,…
Tummy Tuck for skin, fat, and stretch marks after pregnancy?
Tummy Tuck in D.C.
Oct 2, 2009
Several things will determine the best timing for your tummy tuck surgery. If you only recently delivered, then the welfare of you baby needs to come first whether that involved breast feeding or just being physically able to care for her. During this time you should try to lose weight hopefully returning to near your pre-pregnancy weight. Sometimes this is unrealistic in which case you want to return to a stable weight. Once your weight has stabilized and you are sure you want no more…
Side effects from Tummy Tuck sutures?
Tummy tuck sutures
May 26, 2009
Each surgeon has his or her own preference for sutures used for diastasis repair. I tend to use absorbable sutures for most of my patients. My main reason is that many of my patients are thin and can often feel the not from the suture through their skin. With an absorbable suture, this not will disappear as the suture breaks down. With a permanent suture, the not will persist and may be bothersome for the patient.
I don’t think there is any significant difference in the long-term outcome…
Pain in right breast after augmentation
Pain not uncommon
May 26, 2009
Some level of her discomfort is normal after breast augmentation. It’s not, for many women to have more on one side than the other. This does not necessarily indicate a problem. Quite often, pain is worse on the patient’s dominance side probably as a result of using that particular arm more than the other. I would expect your discomfort to continue to improve over the next few months.
I would encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon, however, to be sure there are no other…
Liposuction after incisional hernia repair?
Repair hernia before considering Liposuction
May 22, 2009
Liposuction may be something to consider, but I would not recommend having it performed until after your hernia is repaired. If the weight gain was related to lack of activity due to problems associated with the hernia, losing weight will be easier once the hernia has been corrected.
In general, Liposuction is not a good technique facilitating weight-loss in the patient. It is very effective, however providing localized recontouring of specific areas that remain of concern once the…
Replace breast implants due to corner fold?
Consider implant revision
May 22, 2009
Palpable corners or folds of an implant are commonly seen in women. When implants replaced, very little natural soft tissue is available cover the implant. This is generally most noticeable with saline implants. This does not represent an error the way the surgery was performed, but merely a shortcoming of the type of implant chosen for certain anatomic situations.
The edge of the implant is generally palpable in the lower outer aspect of the breast. In this situation, switching from…
Thermage or Blepharoplasty for sagging under eyes?
Thermage and blepharoplasty may be complimentary
May 22, 2009
Thermage and Blepharoplasty are each good treatments for treating certain types of lower eyelid problems. I think it’s generally a false choice to consider one or the other as they tend to address different issues.
Thermage is very effective for providing some degree of improvement in fine lines. If this is the dominant concern regarding her lower eyelids, Thermage may be a good noninvasive choice to consider. Most patients, however, complains of puffiness and bulging of fat and lower…
