Benefits of tummy tuck?
Benefits of a tummy tuck
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for your question. If you are a good candidate medically and surgically for a tummy tuck it offers many benefits. Patients have reported improvements in self confidence, self esteem and improvements in the cosmetic appearance of the abdomen. Some patients also report increased ability to exercise and improvements in back pain since the excess skin is gone.
The procedure is not without risks. First of all, you must be a good candidate medically, surgically and…
I had a tummy tuck and lipo. Is there anything I can put on it to help with the swelling?
Swelling after tummy tuck and liposuction
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for your question. Swelling right after your procedure is normal and can take months to subside. You will notice that each week it gets better. The best thing you can do is to follow your surgeon’s post operative instructions.
Best wishes!
Breast implants before or after children?
Breast Implants before or after Children
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for your question. This is a very common question that patients have. This is a very person decision and before making your decision it is important for you to know exactly what is involved.

If you wait until you are done having children, you may end up waiting several years depending on how many children you decide to have.
If you get implants first, please understand that there is a good chance that you will need to have a revision once you are…

Should I get high profile 700 cc silicone implants over or under the muscle?
700 cc implant under or over the muscle
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you for your question. 700 cc implants are very large implants. Having them over the muscle will most likely lead to a high risk of visibility of the implant as well as rippling is the skin. In addition regardless of the pocket please understand that you will most likely need a revision surgery within the next 10 years.

Best wishes!

Can tummy tissue be used for breast reconstruction if I had liposuction 13 years ago?
Abdominal flap for breast reconstruction after Liposuction.
Jun 8, 2018
Hello. Thank you very much for your question. YES! Tummy tissue can be used for breast reconstruction after liposuction. In my patients that have had liposuction, I ALWAYS get imaging such as a CT Angiogram of the abdomen to look at the vessels to see if they are in tact to perform a DIEP Flap.
In the worst case scenario, if the perforating vessels have been damaged, one can still get a procedure known as a TRAM Flap. Or tissue can be taken from the thighs to…

Burning pain 6 years after breast reconstruction.
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for your question. Without getting proper imaging, it is hard to determine if you do have a rupture in your implants. The first step is to get radiographic imaging in order to determine if there is a rupture of the implant. Plastic surgeons can order these tests, but so can your gynecologist, primary care physician or breast surgeon. I would see if you can get into see one of these other doctors in order to get everything started.

Can empty tissue expanders shift in the breast pocket?
Shifting tissue expanders in the pocket
Jun 8, 2018
Hello.

thank you very much for your question. Congrats on finishing radiation! Yes it is possible for the tissue expanders to shift in the pocket after a breast reconstruction. It depends on what type of tissue expander was sued. If the expander was a smooth expander versus a textured expander it has a higher tendency to shift. In addition, when the expander isn’t fully inflated with saline, it can also shift.

My advise to you is visit the plastic surgeon that performed t…

Can scar tissue have developed and be the cause of the sharp pains I’m experiencing? 13 years post bre
pain several years after breast reconstruction.
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for your question. There are many causes of this type of pain several years after a breast reconstruction. Some common causes are implant rupture, and capsular contracture. One also has to be very vigilant for a recurrence of cancer that is causing this type of pain.

The first thing I would advise you to do is visit a breast oncologic surgeon as well as as a plastic surgeon. Most likely, they will order imaging such an MRI or ultrasound and then determine…

Can I be a candidate for direct-to-implant reconstructive surgery if I have a mild case of tubular bre
Direct to implant breast reconstruction in patients with tubular breasts
Jun 8, 2018
Hello,

Thank you very much for your question. Having tubular breasts should not be a preclusion to having direct to implant reconstruction.
I would have to see pictures and perform a physical examination prior to determining if you are a candidate for direct to implant reconstruction.

In general, (there are always exceptions to the rule) the best patients for a direct to implant reconstruction are the following:

1.) Minimal ptosis ( sagging fo the…

Are there any breast implants that will give you volume at the top of your breasts after a mastectomy?
Upper pole fullness after mastectomy.
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for your question. Lack of upper pole fullness after mastectomy and implant reconstruction is a common concern that is experienced by patients. Once implants settle they may not give you the upper pole fullness that you desire. In order to correct this, there are other methods that can be used such as free fat grafting. In this procedure, fat is liposuctioned from other parts of the body and injected into the breasts. When fat grafting is done, about 50% of fat…
Renuva for breast reconstruction ripples: I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction.
Renuva for breast reconstruction
Jun 8, 2018
Hello. Thank you for your question. I have not heard of anyone using just Renuva inplace of fat grafting to the breasts. I also do not know the implications of what Renuva will look like on Imaging such as mammogram, MRI and Ultrasound.

Without looking at pictures it is not possible to give you and opinion on what needs to be done.
You may want to consider switching to a highly cohesive gel implant that may improve the appearance of rippling.

Please follow up with…

Is it normal to have a ton of space between the tissue expanders? I have 2 huge side boobs, it looks s
Space between expanders.
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you for your question as well as the photographs. It depends on the location of your expanders. If your expanders are underneath the muscle (subpectoral) sometimes there is a greater chance that there is a space between the expanders. There is less of a chance of this happening with expanders above the muncle (prepectoral). There is usually a lot of work done during a the second stage to correct the position of the expanders so that the implants are sitting in a proper…
Breast reconstruction surgery hurts when laughing: I just had breast reconstruction surgery 4 days ago
Hurting after breast reconstruction
Jun 8, 2018
Congratulations on completing the next stage of breast reconstruction! 4 days out from the procedure, I would expect you to st ill be sore and what you are experiencing is normal. If you do however experience pain unrelieved by medication, redness, and high fever, I would see your plastic surgeon right away.

Best wishes!

Removing wrinkles/folds in armpit after mastectomy and implants
Wrinkles under the armpit after breast reconstruction.
Jun 8, 2018
Thank you very much for this question. Based on these pictures, it does not seem like there is an issue with the implants. A full physical exam must be done in order to fully ascertain this. I do agree that excess skin in this area without excess fat is better served with a surgical procedure to remove the excess skin. I do not think cool sculpting will do the trick.

Where in the New Orleans area can I go to get my drains removed after having a TT done?
Removal of drains after tummy tuck.
Jun 8, 2018
The best advice I can give you is to return to the surgeon that operated on you to have your drains removed. If your surgeon is not in the area, then I would call offices of board certified plastic surgeons in your area. Please note that there will be an out of pocket cost for the consultation as well as to take the drains out. Please only see a plastic surgeon. Do not attempt to take your own drains out and do not go to physicians who are not plastic surgeons for this procedure.
