Are saline implants a good choice for me?
Saline vs Gel implants
Nov 22, 2016
Both types of implants have their advantages/disadvantages. Basically, saline implants are less expensive and less troublesome when they leak. They are not as natural feeling as gel implants and have more of a tendency to cause rippling that can be felt and sometimes seen. As previously mentioned, you need to have a detailed discussion with your surgeon concerning available implant types and be comfortable with your choice before you have your surgery.
How long should wound drains stay in?
Drain removal after tummy tuck
Nov 16, 2016
Drains are usually removed after a tummy tuck based on the volume of fluid they produce over a 24 hour period. Our office will remove these drains when their 24 hour output is less that 25cc for the last several days. Drains/drainsites can become infected so removing them as soon as possible is an important part of the recovery process. Removing them too soon can also lead to fluid collections under the abdominal skin called seromas. You should discuss this issue with…
Can my breast reduction be covered by Obama care?
Insurance Coverage for Breast Reduction
Nov 16, 2016
Your best bet would be to contact Plastic Surgeons in your area so that their office staff can assist you in determining what criteria your particular insurance policy uses to determine your eligibility for this procedure. Some policies specifically exclude coverage for breast reduction surgery. You can do this for yourself online but it is usually much easier to get help from offices that do this frequently and are familiar with the process…
I’m 37 just had my last child. Would like to get a tummy tuck.
Tummy Tuck after pregnancy
Nov 11, 2016
It is very important to allow your body to heal completely after all the changes that occur during pregnancy and delivery. Ideally, you would want to let your body loose as much of your pregnancy weight as is practical. For some, this may take only a few months. For others, this may take up to a year. Generally speaking, I think a minimum of 6 months is necessary for healing after an uneventful pregnance/delivery. Delivery by C section and/or other complications during…
Why do some surgeons believe in surgical bra or no bra at all for recovery?
Surgical bra after breast augmentation
Nov 11, 2016
For the first two weeks after breast augmentation, the main argument for a surgical bra/sports bra is to provide gentle pressure over the breasts which usually minimizes pain and swelling. Some surgeons also feel this reduces the risk of bleeding after surgery. Most importantly, it is important to discuss this issue with your chosen surgeon prior to surgery to be comfortable with his post-operative plan.
What are my chances of having a nice smiley cut/scar after a Tummy Tuck?
Tummy Tuck Scar
Nov 11, 2016
Tummy tuck incisions/scars are very carefully drawn out pre-operatively in order to insure optimal shape and symmetry. This is usually done in the holding room just prior to surgery. However, it is rare to see a patient who is perfectly symmetrical in the lower abdomen when measuring bony and skin surface landmarks. Additionally, skin tension across the scar and other healing forces are rarely equal side to side. So, many factors can contribute to scar shape as well as symmetry….
When getting an extended Tummy tuck do they normally do Lipo there too or do you have to ask
Extended Tummy Tuck
Sep 27, 2016
As has been stated before, this procedure is customized to provide optimal results for each individual paitent. An integral part of this operation is removing excess fat in the abdomen and surrounding areas (if needed). There are two basic methods of removing fat. It may be removed directly with scissors or other cutting devices. Alternatively, it may be removed by suction using a thin metal tube. Both methods work very well and have their own advantages and…
Will I need a full tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck?
Tummy Tuck or Mini
Sep 27, 2016
A full tummy tuck involves a longer scar but will significantly improve both the upper and lower abdomen. In comparison, the Mini Tummy Tuck uses a shorter scar to improve the lower (below the belly button) abdomen only. If you are happy with your upper abdomen, then a Mini might be just the procedure for you. A physical evaluation by a Plastic Surgeon will allow these concepts to be applied in more detail to your specific physical characteristics and give you a…
Do you have to take antibiotics with a mommy makeover?
Antibiotics and Tummy Tucks
Sep 26, 2016
For an otherwise healthy patient, most surgeons will give antibiotics through the IV just before, and during the operation. A few will prescribe oral antibiotics after surgery. You need to discuss your health issues with your surgeon at your initial consult to decide exactly what role antibiotics would play in your tummy tuck.
Will I need help for a few days after abdominoplasty?
Recovery help after Abdominoplasty
Sep 26, 2016
Everyone responds to recovery after tummy tuck in somewhat different ways. Generally speaking, having some assistance at home during the day would be helpful for at least a day or two and possibly up to a week after surgery. This might be a shorter period if you have a high tolerance to discomfort and like to be self-sufficient. If you have small children, this period might extend up to 2-3 weeks. As always, a complete discussion with your surgeon of your…
How soon can I drive home after upper eyelid surgery? 1300 mile round trip.
Driving after Eyelid Surgery
Sep 26, 2016
I assume you are referring to Upper Blepharoplasty. As stated previously, you could be driven (by a responsible adult) home the day after surgery. I would not advise this as it would be wise to remain near your surgeon for the first week after surgery in case any complications were to develop. I would not advise driving yourself on a long trip like you propose for at least 1-2 weeks after surgery.
Am I a good candidate for a TT and lipo?
Tummy Tuck and Lipo?
Sep 26, 2016
From your photos it appears that you are probably a good candidate for these procedures. You will need a physical examination by a plastic surgeon to further determine the benefits of a tummy tuck and liposuction. Most importantly, your surgeon needs to determine the amount of fat carried outside the abdominal cavity as compared to fat volume inside the abdominal wall. This will determine how flat your tummy would be after a tummy tuck. Your skin quality appears to be good….
When will I be able to go back to work after the procedure and do I need to stay 10 days?
Back to work after tummy tuck
Sep 26, 2016
There are too many variables to answer your question without further information. What kind of work do you do? How much physical exertion in required for your job? Additionally, since you are having other procedures with the tummy tuck, it is most important to have a full discussion with your surgeon. Talking with patients who have had your exact combination of procedures will complete the answer to your concerns.
If you’re thin with a small waist and thin torso, what size and shape implant do you get if
Proportion in Breast Augmentation
Sep 23, 2016
“Proportion” is a very subjective term, especially when breast size is the concern. The key for you will be to determine what looks proportional to you. Your plastic surgeon will help you make this determination with a variety of techniques. 3D breast imaging can be very helpful in helping you select the look you desire. Sizing bras with/without a t-shirt can also aid in visualizing the result you are looking for. Focusing on the look you want is much more…
What breast implant offers cleavage?
Breast Implants and cleagage
Sep 23, 2016
Breast cleavage is a result of several factors. Breast width and distance between the breast are physical characteristics you are born with. Breast augmentation offers the chance to modify (narrow the gap) between your breasts. Implant type and volume as well as the pocket where the implant is placed offer variables that can be optimized to produce more cleavage than you have naturally. A comprehensive discussion with the plastic surgeon chosen to perform your surgery…
