Am I a good candidate for thigh liposuction? I am 5’7 and have maintained a weight of 140. (Photos
Lipo of the thighs
Oct 7, 2017
It does appear from your photos that you may be a good candidate for lipo of the thighs. This, of course, depends on your general health, your expectations for the outcome of surgery and other factors that would be evaluated during a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. You have a low BMI and I commend you on your weight loss. That said, lipo has always been best for contouring areas that are resistant to exercise and diet — areas that I like to call, F.R.E…
Does muscle repair automatically comes with TT or does it have to be requested with the TT?
Muscle repair in a TT
Oct 7, 2017
Your question is a good one. Each surgical procedure needs to be customized to the very specific and unique problems that each prospective patient presents. That being said, a thorough evaluation by a board-certified plastic surgeon is the only way to determine what steps will be included in your TT. Certainly, you can and should discuss your desires at the time of the consultation, but the plastic surgeon will evaluate your abdominal wall muscle tone, laxity and midline…
Is 62 too old for a tummy tuck? I’m 5’4″ and currently weigh 119 pounds.
Tummy tuck in your 60s and beyond
Oct 7, 2017
There is no reason not to consider such a procedure if you are healthy, undergo medical clearance prior to surgery and you have surgery by a well-trained, competent board-certified plastic surgeon who does these procedures all the time. I have performed TTs on women into their 70s as long as they are in good health, have realistic expectations and have the appropriate indications for the procedure. From the photo you submitted, you have skin laxity that can only be treated by a…
Lipo vs tummy tuck: I have had 2 c-sections the 2nd was 6 years ago.
Lipo vs. TT
Oct 7, 2017
Very frequent question I hear during a body contouring consultation. It obviously depends upon the details of your history and physical examination. From your brief description, it may be that you would do better with some kind of a TT — to tighten the lax abdominal wall muscles and treat any skin / fat excess that may exist. You should set up a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can properly and thoroughly evaluate you and discuss the range of options…
TT recovery question for 1.5 weeks post surgery
Give yourself time to recover
Oct 6, 2017
Hopefully, your TT and your recovery will go smoothly, but I would not put that kind of pressure on myself to commit to something like that only a week and a half following surgery. You should feel pretty good by then and will be up and around, but I would counsel you to skip the singing this year!
Potential risk/appearance of Lipedema
Lipedema?
Oct 6, 2017
It does not appear, from the photos you submitted, that you have lipedema. Lipedema is a very specific disorder of fat accumulation that can occur in the upper and lower extremities. It is often familial. It never involves the feet and there is a distinct “cut-off” at the ankle. From your history, you may have muscular legs, but the photo does not demonstrate lipedema.
Tummy tuck – why do some surgeons not use drains?
Drains or no drains — that is the question!
Oct 6, 2017
Most plastic surgeons were trained to do a TT with drains. Drains evacuate fluid that “weeps” from the tissues following surgery. Without the drains, the fluid would build up between the abdominal muscles and the skin. But the drains are often highly annoying for patients after the procedure; they are uncomfortable and are not pleasant to remove. Some plastic surgeons began to do TTs a different way so as to eliminate the drains — closing all the opened tissue planes…
I am 49 and have 4 children. Do not want a tummy tuck. Which type of liposuction would be best for
What’s the “Right” type of lipo?
Oct 4, 2017
From the photos your submitted, you appear to be a good candidate for lipo. Of course, this would depend upon a thorough medical history and physical exam by a board-certified plastic surgeon. There are many types of liposuction; all, these days, employ some type of tumescent anesthesia, in addition to oral or IV sedation or general anesthesia. The type of anesthetic management is surgeon and anesthesiologist preference. Each surgeon employs the type of liposuction…
Any advice on how to achieve a slim lower body? I’m a 38 year old woman, 148cm 50kg, lipo or tummy
Smartlipo, not a Tummy Tuck
Oct 4, 2017
From the photos you submitted, you would appear to be a very good candidate for lipo. I like Smartlipo because I feel it is more gentle — converting soft solid fat into a liquid and making it easier and less traumatic to suction out. It appears that you would benefit from circumferential contouring of the abdomen, hips and flanks, as well as contouring of your upper thighs as well. Smartlipo also gives you some skin tightening, too! This may be helpful to you in the…
Good candidate for tummy tuck? I am a mom of 3 (including twins) and I am dying to get rid of this
Tummy Tuck gets rid of abdominal “skin flap” and tightens abdominal muscles
Oct 4, 2017
From the one photo you submitted, it appears that you are a very good candidate for a full tummy tuck with removal of the excess abdominal skin, likely selective liposuction of the hips and flanks — for circumferential contouring — and tightening of the muscular abdominal wall. This should restore the appearance of your trunk to one that more resembled what you had before your pregnancies. Of course, no one can be sure if you are a good candidate without a thorough review of…
Will just lipo work for me? Surgeon said I don’t need a tummy tuck.
A plan for body contouring
Sep 6, 2017
The one photo you submitted is cropped too close to really get a feel for how you look — and it is only one view. Not enough to get information to answer your question. You are, indeed, overweight and this will affect your overall result. Your BMI is 33 — in the “obese” range — and this will negatively impact your results. I suggest that you lose weight first and then have body contouring. The exact procedure indicated will depend upon exactly what problems you have…
TT, lipo, both, or other suggestions? I’m 5’5″ and 252 lbs.
Extended Tummy Tuck with adjunctive lipo and breast lift/reduction
Sep 6, 2017
Congratulations on your weight loss. Your diet is great, but where are you on your weight loss journey? I would advise that you complete your weight loss plan and remain stable at your target weight for at least 6 months before undergoing any elective body contouring surgery (a year would be even better). You will likely need and circumferential (360 degree) body contouring with a circumferential tummy tuck / lower body lift and either a breast lift or breast reduction…
Belly button after Tummy Tuck, is there a way to fix it?
Belly button outie after TT
Sep 5, 2017
You do look like you’re in great shape, athletic and quite toned. I think your abdominal wall looks amazing. Although I cannot tell without examining you both standing and lying down, there may still be some small excess fat under the upper part of your belly button or a very small recurrent hernia. This is very subtle. It is better in the morning because you have been lying flat all night. Standing, eating and working out, etc., during the day increases your…
What should I get done?
A plan for body contouring
Sep 5, 2017
Body contouring — whether lipo, a tummy tuck, lower body lift or some of the newer non-invasive technologies — are best for people who are at or very close to their ideal body weight. Lipo, for example, is designed to treat what I like to call FRED — Fat Resistant to Exercise and Diet. This is the fat that you just can’t seem to lose with an adequate diet and exercise plan. I would suggest a medically supervised diet plan, along with an adequate exercise plan — both of…
What would be best for me: full TT with lipo contouring or Avelar TT with lipo 360?
Tummy Tuck with lipo vs. Avelar Tummy Tuck
Sep 5, 2017
It seems that, after your pregnancies and 4 C-sections, you have considerable muscular abdominal wall laxity. This is one of the components that is addressed in a tummy tuck. Tummy tucks, like any other plastic surgical procedure, are customized to each individual’s problems. It does not appear, from your two photos, that you have a lot of excess fat; nevertheless, I prefer 360 degree contouring whenever I treat the trunk — whether with lipo alone or lipo and a TT…
