less invasive breast reduction techniques
Jan 14, 2018
Hi,
There are many factors that go into the decision on what type of breast reduction to perform for a patient. Some surgeons can get a good result with liposuction alone, or with short scar techniques. Whether or not you are a candidate requires an in-person consultation with a plastic surgeon to perform a physical exam as well as a detailed history. Most women recover after a week or so to go back to work, however strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 6…

Improvements to breast reduction/lift
Jan 14, 2018
Hi! Thank you for including photos. You most certainly could gain some improvement with a small revision. However I tell my patients to wait at least 6 months, as there is still some settling and retraction of skin that may occur. It is important to follow up with the surgeon who did the initial procedure to insure that you get the best result with the safest approach.

Can I wax my legs or bikini area while on Retin A?
Waxing is ok
Nov 16, 2017
Hi! Waxing on other parts of your body is absolutely ok while using topical retin-a. Depending on how long you have been using it, you may eventually be able to undergo facial waxing. Once you’re face has become “used” to it, you will find it becomes less easily irritated overall.

Best wishes,

Should I wash my face after using Retin-A?
Retin-a regimen
Nov 16, 2017
Hi! Retin-A is best applied to a fresh clean face at night before bedtime. If you are experiencing flaking, you can apply a plain moisturizer on top of it. When you wash your face in the morning you may incorporate a gentle exfoliating scrub or cream into your regimen to assist in dead skin removal.
Masks should be ok, but if you are new to retina-a or the mask, you may want to try it on a small patch of your face to make sure you don’t experience excessive…
How long should the peeling/flaking from Retin-A 0.025% last?
Gentle exfoliation will help with flaking
Nov 16, 2017
Hi! The “retin-a syndrome” of redness, peeling and flaking is expected in the first few weeks upon starting treatment. You can decrease the severity by only applying the product every other day or even just twice a week, and slowly build up to daily application. Using a gentle exfoliator in the morning will also help clear away the excess flakes.

heavy lifting after breast reduction
Oct 26, 2017
This is a great question. I usually tell my patients they can start lifting heavy objects (i.e. their children) 3-4 weeks after surgery. This depends upon if your wounds are completely healed, and if you have had no complications. I would call your surgeon to get a definitive answer from them to be on the safe side. Best wishes!
Does the skin removed counts as part as the total weight required for breast reduction?
Yes your skin is included
Oct 26, 2017
In the weight of the estimate, skin and the breast tissue itself is all included. How much is taken off depends on how small you want to be. It sounds like you will likely be able to hit the “target” for insurance coverage, but an in-person consultation with a plastic surgeon will best be able to assess you. Best wishes!

Concern for open wounds
Sep 26, 2017
Hello! I am concerned that you still have open wounds from your mastectomy. Did you have radiation? Please see your breast surgeon, unfortunately you won’t be a candidate for any type of reconstruction without getting those tissues healed and closed. Best of luck to you.
2 weeks post TT & MR, does my incision look ok?
Normal post operative appearance of incision
Sep 5, 2017
Hello! I would say your incision looks completely within the realm of normal heeling for 2 weeks out. Signs of infection would include redness extending beyond the borders of this incision, warm skin to the touch, tenderness that is getting worse instead of better, swelling, and even some fluid drainage. In the absence of these symptoms, I would say you do not have an infection. Best of luck to you!

wound separation
Sep 5, 2017
Hello,
It looks like you have some separation of your wound, which can be a complication of a tummy tuck. It is hard to tell from your photo, but the rest of the skin with the scab will likely heal without much incident. Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do except to wait it out. If you are a smoker, it is super important to not smoke during this healing period. Keep that area in the picture clean (wash daily with soap and water), and make sure you have follow up…

plastic surgery options
Aug 31, 2017
Hello! I calculated your body mass index based (BMI) based on the information you’ve given, which puts you at 48. There are several good studies that have shown us that patients who have a BMI over 35 have an extremely high risk of complications including infection, wound breakdown and poor healing. As plastic surgeons our goal is to give our patients the most aesthetically pleasing outcome possible. Without pictures I would be very hesitant to do any major…

Wound breakdown after TT/BR
Aug 31, 2017
Hello! Thank you for sharing your photos. I understand how upsetting this can be! However it is common for small wound openings to occur after having these types of surgeries, especially if a lot of tissue was removed. Rest assured that they will heal completely, it just requires a little extra TLC to the wounds while you are going through the process. Any irregularities in terms of your final outcome can usually be tweaked in the office. Hang in there!…
Can I get medicaid to cover labiaplasty in New York, NY?
Medicaid coverage for labiaplasty
Aug 30, 2017
Hello! This is a great question. Unfortunately at this time, labiaplasty is usually considered to be a cosmetic procedure only. However, it may be worth your time to call some of the high volume centers around NY/NJ and ask if they have had success getting insurance coverage, and what steps you could take to try to go this route. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

tight skin after breast reduction
Aug 30, 2017
Hello! Thank you for including photos, and congratulations on your breast reduction! It is normal to feel tight skin after a breast reduction due to both swelling, and the nature of the procedure. As the swelling subsides, the tightness will get better. Be sure to keep your support bra on as instructed by your surgeon, and to follow up as scheduled.
Best of luck to you!

Open wound after breast reduction
Aug 30, 2017
Hello,
Sorry to hear that your surgical site opened up. Rest assured, this is not uncommon, especially in larger reductions. I would continue to wear your sports bra, and place a piece of dry guaze or absorbent pad in it because you can expect to see some clear to reddish drainage. Make sure you get in to see your surgeon sooner than later so that they may follow this. Often times this just requires some local wound care, and it closes up on its own over the course of…
