Tummy Tuck or Fleur Di Lis Incision?
You can achieve good results without a Vertical Scar. It may mean extending the incision a bit to get rid of all the excess skin. Combining it with Liposuction of your flanks (love handles) will give you a pleasing result and a good contour. (Naveen Somia, MBBS, PhD, FRACS, Sydney Plastic Surgeon)
Regular incision is fine
I don’t think you have enough laxity to justify the vertical scar. The central wedge resection vertically also violates more vascular supply and healing can be impaired. There is also more prolonged swelling. If anything, I would consider extending the incision posteriorly to incorporate more flank/hip. Best of Luck! (M. Scott Haydon, MD, Austin Plastic Surgeon)
What incision for your tummy tuck?
Are you willing to accept scars going up the middle of your tummy? If so, the anchor tummy tuck would certainly give you a better waistline. If you dream of wearing the bikini, then you have to go with the traditional incision and accept the laxity that will persist to some degree. So it really comes down to you and what you need. (Curtis Wong, MD, Redding Plastic Surgeon)
I think you would be an ideal candidate for a traditional tummy tuck. The fleur de lis is usually reserved for massive weight loss patients and those with much more skin excess than you have. You will get a fantastic result, good luck. (Pouria Moradi, MBBS, FRACS, Sydney Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck vs. Fleur de lis tummy tuck
I think overall a Fleur de Lis would give you more tightening and a better overall result. However, you have to consider that the scar would be much more noticeable. Discuss this with your surgeon at length before deciding. best, M (Michael Salzhauer, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Routinely a large amount of excess skin may be removed during an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) without the need for a vertical incision (Fleur de Lis). This, of course, is determined during your in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. In my surgical center I routinely perform this procedure with a board certified anesthesiologist providing the anesthesia care. An epidural anesthetic works very well and the patient is able to walk out of the center in 2-3 hours. (Z. Paul Lorenc, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
To Fleur or not to Fleur the abdominoplasty
The Fleur de Lis abdominoplasty takes out central tissue in your upper abdomen vertically but also includes the regular abdominoplasty by removing tissue horizontally. This removes a lot of abdominal tissue and really gives you a nice waist. However, it leaves you with a vertical scar and a lower horizontal scar. So the question is really. how much tissue should be removed and is it worth the additional scar. That is based on a good exam with a conversation between the surgeon and the patient. Best wishes. (Elisa A. Burgess, MD, Portland Plastic Surgeon)
I think you’ll have a nice result with an extended abdominoplasty using a scar low on the pelvis and spanning the width of the front of your body. I don’t think you have enough vertical laxity to justify the Fleur Di Les scar. Good luck ! (Scott C. Sattler, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck: standard or fleur de lis tummy tuck?
From the pictures I would suggest a standard incision, low above the pubic area. The fleur de lis puts a large vertical scar on your tummy; this should be used only when unavoidable. In your case you will do well with the usual transverse line alone. (Daniel Greenwald, MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)
I would advise you to stick with a traditional tummy tuck incision. This would dramatically improve your appearance without that scar in the middle of your abdomen. You may have some mild loose skin in the middle of your abdomen but it will not be nearly as unsightly as that scar. Dr. ES (Earl Stephenson, Jr., MD, DDS, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Based on what I can see on the photos, I think you would be fine with liposuction and a standard abdominoplasty incision. You may get a bit more tightness superiorly with a fleur de lis, but I would be of the opinion that it would not be enough to warrant the extra incision. I hope this helps (Robert Steely, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Extended Tummy Tuck vs Fleur de lis tummy tuck
From your photos, it does not appear that you need a Fleur de Lis. The vertical scar is only needed if you require abundant lateral skin excision in the upper abdomen. This will leave you with a large vertical scar and is not worth it in your case. I recommend an extended (approx. 270 degree circumference) tummy tuck and lipo. This will give you muscle tightening, sufficient skin removal and fat removal in the side areas. This is more extensive than the usual tummy tuck but should give you excellent tummy tuck results without a vertical scar. (Martin Toole, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
Fleur Di Les Incision or standard
An examination from a surgeon will confirm. I prefer to do an extending abdominoplasty incision with liposuction. The Fleur Di Les Incision will allow one to excise the skin centrally. The surgeon needs to be careful with the Fleur Di Les Incision undermining. If wide undermining is done you can have skin necrosis. (Ben Childers, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
