Lipoabdominoplasty

Lipoabdominoplasty has greater attendant risks than a traditional tummy tuck.

I incorporated lipoabdominoplasty into my practice because of superior results in properly selected patients.

What percentage do? Doubt there is a real answer. I would suggest getting several evaluations and proceed from there. (Craig Harrison, MD, PA, Tyler Plastic Surgeon)

How common is Liposuction with tummy tuck (Lipoabdominoplasty)?

Depending on the thickness of your abdominal wall and also on your overall health and past medical history it is safe to combine tummy tuck with some liposuction.

lipoabdominoplasty before

It is safe to liposuction the lateral abdomen and flanks as well as the pubic area. You need to be careful to not over liposuction the central portion of the abdominal wall during tummy tuck as you can decrease blood supply and cause wound healing issues. This is especially true in patients who have a smoking history or a history of diabetes. (Shaun Parson, MD, Phoenix Plastic Surgeon)

Almost 98 % of patients that need a Full abdominoplasty is combined with liposuction – Lipoabdominoplasty, In the past was not a commom pratice to make them together but now is a commom practice depending on the risks and hemoglobin levels (Cynthia Disla, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy-tuck procedures include liposuction except in thin women. Dog ears tummy tuck can be easily corrected under local anesthesia. (Malcolm D. Paul, MD, Orange County Plastic Surgeon)

Percentage of Full Tummy Tuck That Include Liposuction?

A lipoabdominoplasty efore

You will not find any reliable statistics in regards to your question. You are correct in that most well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons will use liposuction as a tool during many ( if not most) tummy tuck procedures. My best suggestion to people considering coming out of surgery is to select your plastic surgeon carefully based on training, experience, and demonstrable ability to achieve the types of results they are looking for.

Then, prior to proceeding with surgery, careful communication between patient and plastic surgeon will be key. Attention should be paid to the areas that you have listed in your question. Otherwise, potential for patient dissatisfaction (and need for additional surgery) is increased. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)

Fat removal with tummy tuck

The lipoabdominoplasty

Almost all patients require some method of fat removal of the upper abdomen during a tummy tuck. This can involve liposuction or direct excision of the fat. There is increased risks associated with liposuction and less with direct excision. The safest method is to have a tummy tuck followed by a liposuction 6 months later (most patients don’t want two surgeries). Your surgeon will decide which method is best for your situation. (Kurtis Martin, MD, Cincinnati Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction or liposculpting is frequently used with a tummy tuck procedure

lipoabdominoplasty picture

I usually use some form of fat contouring when i perform a tummy tuck. Mostly I use these techniques to etch out definition which improves the cosmetic appearance of the abdomen. There is no known percentage as to how often this is done because it is based on the aesthetic judgement of the surgeon. You can view some before and after photos of lipoabdominoplasty on the link and video below which may help clarify what exactly is done. (Dev Wali, MD, Claremont Plastic Surgeon)

Lipoabdominoplasty reason

First, dog ears should not occur from lipoabdominoplasty. Liposuction to other areas including the mons can be performed as an adjunct to a tummy tuck, but a tummy tuck is not defined as having liposuction. However, most women will benefit from having liposuction of the flanks, back, and mons. Some women have very little fat, and the liposuction is not worthwhile.

Some women have had other surgeries that reduce the vascular supply to the area that may necessitate a more conservative procedure. The key here is to find a plastic surgeon who considers everything and makes the right choice for you.

Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of tummy tucks and liposuction procedures each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon’s website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. (Kenneth B. Hughes, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
