Can I achieve a Low tummy tuck scar?
In my opinion, the best position for the tummy tuck scar is ALWAYS low, that is, at the top of the pubic hairline (or what should be the pubic hair line since we want to tighten the mons pubis if that is stretched as well) and curving out towards each hip as necessary.
However, what some surgeons do, if the patient does not have enough skin laxity above the belly button to advance the old belly button “hole” down past a low incision to be removed, is to raise the scar level as much as needed to remove that “hole”.
This is to avoid a short vertical scar that would result from closing the old belly button “hole”.
The problem with this is that, in some cases, the long ideally low scar gets raised up too high and the pubic hair can be pulled up too high and the distance between the belly button and the pubic hair can look too short.
I think this is a mistake. I think it is better to have a short vertical scar, ideally as low as your skin advancement will allow, and the long scar in its proper low position. (Robert M. Grenley, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck scar location
You have ample skin available on your upper abdomen to allow closure of your tummy tuck scar in a low position. Make sure that you have this discussion with your surgeon and that you have seen pictures of his work. The scar should be below the bathing suit line. (Douglas Hargrave, MD, Albany Plastic Surgeon)
Low scar
Pick the right surgeon and let them know what you want and have them show you where they will put the scar. I put all of my tummy tuck scars low. Neither of us wants to see them above your under pants. (William B. Rosenblatt, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Low Tummy Tuck Scar
Yes, you should have a low tummy tuck scar. The next time you meet with your surgeon, ask him to mark where he is planning to make the incision, so you will go into this with a clear understanding of your outcome. (Robert E. Zaworski, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Low tummy tuck scar
I believe that the scar can be placed very low in the pubic area. I generally like to position it between 7-9 cm above the fourchette with the skin on upward stretch. (Ronald Schuster, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
