Muscle repair tummy tuck
Without a physical exam, it is hard to advise specifically.
Generally, after several pregnancies the abdominal wall/muscles are stretched and lax.
A skin only tummy tuck can be performed but may leave you with a more rounded abdomen. To get the best result, a muscle plication is often required.
The benefits are multiple: 1) flatter tummy, 2) narrower waist, and 3) allows more skin to be removed for optimal tightening/flattening.
Discuss your goals and concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon. (Matthew H. Steele, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)
Ut seems that tightening the muscle may be even more important than removing and tightening skin. The exposure for a tummy tuck provides an excellent opportunity to tighten and flatten muscles beyond what could be accomplished by other means, including exercise.
I’ve tightened muscle on EVERY female tummy tuck patient who’s had children. After pregnancy, it’s difficult to flatten the abdomen completely with sit-ups and exercise alone. I would absolutely recommend that you have the muscles tightened too, otherwise you’ll have a partial improvement. The temporary pain of the muscle sutures is worth the benefits. (Andres Taleisnik, MD, Orange County Plastic Surgeon) whether or not your rectus muscles have split, something called diastasis recti , is hard to tell from those photographs. An in-person consultation is best to determine it. If your muscles have split, it is best to bring the muscles together so they can support the contents of your abdomen better and give you a better result. Not all people have the muscles separated though. (Julio Garcia, MD, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)
Do I need muscle repair?
As the saying goes: you can’t have your cake and eat it too. You want good results, but do not want to commit to the procedure that gives you the “good result”. You do have a nice shaped body and would get a great result with VASER liposuction and a modified tummy tuck (small suprapubic incision, small incision through the belly button and full muscle repair).
I personally also prefer to do liposculpting of the whole back with my tummy tucks, and in your case the medial thighs should be included. See a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person consultation/evaluation. (George Marosan, MD, Bellevue Plastic Surgeon)
You can get a significant improvement without muscle repair, but to get really good results I would definitely recommend doing the muscle while you are at it. Why not? (Ronald V. DeMars, MD, Portland Plastic Surgeon)
Before you decide to proceed further with your surgery, I would recommend deciding on whether or not you plan on having any more children in the future.
This would be a deciding factor too on tightening the muscle or not. If you plan on NOT having any more children I would recommend on doing it. It would give you an overall better result with your tummy tuck surgery.
Please make sure you do your research and choose an Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. (Ernest Layton, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
You might be able to get away with a skin only tummy tuck but I caution you about short changing your result. If your muscles are weak you will get a much better result fir the long term. Only a good exam and consultation will be able to give you the best answers.(Ronald Schuster, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
