Tummy tuck / abdominoplasty surgery will not affect your tubal ligation.
As to drain placement after surgery, it is really up to your surgeon. I would suggest focusing more on the results than whether or not you will have a drain.
Drain placement is no big deal and after you get over the initial fear of the drain, you will realize it is nothing to fear. Some patients need drains and other do not, depending on their surgery.

The simple answer is ‘yes’, you can have a tummy tuck safely without a drain. The topic seems controversial, though our experience now over nine years has been that the tummy tuck can be performed without a drain with a very low risk of fluid collection called seroma. Tummy tuck should not interfere with your tubal ligation. With regard to drain, most plastic surgeons use drains to minimize the post operative incidence of seromas (fluid collections) under your skin. Different techniques are available in order reduce the change of seroma formation.

In my practice, I refer to them as a “necessary evil”. But there are certain techniques which may be used to eliminate the risk of a fluid collection (seroma) after surgery which having drains is meant to prevent. The techniques carry their own risks if not performed correctly. The tummy tuck should not interfere with the tubal ligation. I assume you already had it performed? It is possible to do a tummy tuck without drains. It is really surgeon preference. Either way is OK. The important thing is to have a nice result with no complications and a well-planned recovery period. The use of drains with tummy tuck surgery is really the surgeons preference. Their use is an attempt to lower the risk of fluid (serum or blood) collecting in the early days after surgery. In my practice, I have not used drains in the past 100 consecutive cases. This has been accomplished with changes to the surgical technique.
Fluid collections occur in about 5% of patients but this has not been higher than when I routinely used drains. After drains are removed, seromas requiring treatment can still occur. Patients are happy to not have drains but I always tell patients that I will determine in the operating room if I need them or not. If your surgeon feels otherwise then this should have no bearing on your outcome. Drains are a short term nuisance but this is a minor concern in the recovery from this procedure. (Mathew C.
