Early tummy tuck scar appearance generally improves with time

Its pretty common to see some pleats, folds and wrinkling along a new tummy tuck wound closure.

I tend to keep these incisions covered with surgical tape for 4 weeks, so most of my patients don’t even notice these issues.

It is still very early after your surgery. The appearance of your scar will improve with time.

There is some bunching of the skin that will resolve in one to two months.

Tummy Tuck Scar?

When we close a TT at the end of the operation, the lower line is almost a straight line, the upper is almost a semi-circle, which is considerably longer.

That is NOT a scar . It’s an incision. Your incision is still healing 2 weeks after surgery and will not be a scars until it is healed, and the healing process takes AT LEAST several months.

Post Tummy Tuck Scar Appearance

You are only 2 weeks post-op. This is still very early on in the healing process. Your incision is wrinkled and has pleats due to the the differences between the lengths of the upper and lower portions of the abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) incision.

There is also a significant amount of inflammation which helps to accentuate this. The inflammation within the scar will subside as the wound matures. During this process you will notice that the scar will start to smooth out and improve in its appearance. This maturation typically occurs over 12 months or so, this is not to say that your incision will look this way for that long.
