Hello there, although it is difficult to tell based on the photos, it is not normal to have a large area of "hardness" after an arm lift 2 months post op. This could be a consolidated hematoma, lymphocele, and less likely, a large area of fat necrosis. Either way, this is not a normal finding. Please consult with your plastic surgeon so he could perform a more thorough exam and identify the source of the hard mass.

There are no scientific studies to show that usage of a binder after a tummy tuck is beneficial in any way. Having said that, patients feel more comfortable wearing a binder. I place a 4-panel velcro binder on my patients for about 4 weeks. I noticed that it helps with swelling and potentially minimizing seroma complications. Of course, I experience is anecdotal only.

A panniculectomy, which is a very different kind of procedure that addresses excess hanging lower abdominal skin may be covered as a medically necessary procedure with adequate documentation of the size of the pannus, and rash or recurrent infections within the folds.
