I know that your weight gain must be so frustrating! With a BMI of 42 you are definitely not a candidate for surgery at this time. Different surgeons have different goal weights before proceeding with surgery (mine is typically a BMI of 32). Good work on the weight loss! A weight of 170 pounds is a great goal and would put you at a BMI of about 28.3 which is very good for post-MWL body contouring. Depending on how things change with this final weight loss, I suspect you could have the abdomen, buttocks, and arms all treated at a single surgical stage. Persistent swelling after surgery is not uncommon and should not be a cause for extreme concern. Your surgeon should be able to assess and reassure you that this is more typical swelling and not one of the rarer complications that could be associated with swelling.

In general liposuction combined with a tummy tuck is safe and can significantly improve the results, as long as key principals are followed. First, the tummy tuck is altered to optimize blood supply to the skin by reducing undermining. Of course the amount of surgeon performed at one time needs to be within reasonable limits and the patient's weight also needs to be reasonable. In my practice tummy tucks include liposuction more than 75% of the time.

In general this is a challenging area to treat. Many surgeons will try liposuction, and sometimes it helps to an extent, but it rarely solves the problem. Thanks for your question. While recurrence of muscle separation is possible, it is relatively rare. Having not seen you pre-operatively it would not be possible to say. However your surgeon will be able to evaluate integrity of the repair using a crunch or straight leg lift or other maneuver. The pulling sensation could be due to some scar, and if that is the case it may well get better over time.

This appears to be a totally normal amount of swelling for this early period. You will probably see a significant reduction in swelling over the next couple of months, but it will take 6 months or more before you can be sure that it is 100% gone.

This kind of feeling is not uncommon after surgery, and almost always goes away over time. If you have recently become more active, for example upping your exercise, it may have stimulated some new spasms.
