Will I be ok to attend a concert 5 days after my breast augmentation?
Will I be ok to attend a concert 5 days after my breast augmentation?
Mar 28, 2016
I ask my patients to not elevate their heart rate or blood pressure for 4-6 weeks after surgery.  That being said, if you are going to the type of concert where you will not be elbowed, jostled or crowded (think sitting in your own seat, or going to a classical concert), you may be OK.  However, even in that setting, discomfort or fatigue or other factors may prevent your from enjoying the concert.  This would be an excellent question to ask your board certified plastic surgeon.  good luck!
All body surgery uses local with general or only general anesthesia?
pain 7 days after mommy makeover
Feb 12, 2016
It is very common to still feel sore/uncomfortable one week after having a mommy makeover.  Patients have widely varying levels of pain after the same surgeries.  I generally utilize local anesthetic even when performing surgery under general anesthesia in order to reduce immediate postoperative discomfort.  However, commonly utilized local anesthetics only have a useful duration of action of approximately 8-72 hours when injected, or up to 5 days for elastomeric pain pumps such as On-Q…
Will this bunching up go away I’m one week from breast surgery?
Will this bunching up go away I’m one week from breast surgery?
Feb 8, 2016
Some puckering around incision lines is due to internal sutures which often dissolve around 6 weeks post surgery leaving a much smoother appearance. Additional smoothness is obtained when the implant or breast tissue settles into the lower pole, which may take 3-4 months. “Dog ears” or standing cones at the very end of incisions result when tissue is tightened, leaving relatively lax tissues at the ends of incisions. While the appearance of these often significantly…
Can a ruptured silicone implant cause arm pain?
Can a ruptured silicone implant cause arm pain?
Jan 25, 2016
Leaking silicone can cause scarring and encapsulation, both in the breast and in the axilla. It sounds like you have capsular contracture. The scarring can lead to traction on the nerves leading to the breast, chest wall and arm, particularly the upper inner arm. Of course, there are many other causes of arm pain as well which would need to be investigated. To prevent further scarring and leakage, you should have your encapsulated implants removed. This may or…
Can a hernia return after pregnancy?
Recurrent hernia after pregnancy
Jan 22, 2016
A hernia is a defect in the tough fascial covering of the abdominal wall. This allows intraabdominal contents to protrude. If the contents can be returned to the abdominal cavity (usually with pressure), it is called a reducible hernia. A hernia where contents cannot be returned to the abdominal cavity is called an incarcerated hernia. Occasionally the blood flow to the abdominal organs in the incarcerated hernia can be reduced or cut off, which can lead to serious…
Bright red period following Tummy tuck, arm lift and breast augmentation. Any suggestions?
Bright red period following Tummy tuck, arm lift and breast augmentation
Jan 20, 2016
Thanks for your question. While a change in the timing of your period can occur with hormonal changes and stress surrounding surgery, particularly a lengthy surgery, bright red blood can also be signs of another unrelated issue. Questions your ob gyn or primary care provider may ask include how much blood? How many pads? Clots? Blood on the toilet paper only? Vaginal or rectal bleeding? The bleeding could be from a vaginal, cervical, uterine or…
Whats the difference between a mini tummy tuck and a full tt?
What’s the difference between a mini tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)?
Jan 20, 2016
In a mini abdominoplasty, an incision is made in the bikini line, the skin lifted up to the level of the umbilicus, the lower abdominal rectus abdominus (6 pack) muscles brought together in the midline (tightened), the excess skin pulled down and removed, and the incision sutured shut. This procedure only improves the lower abdomen. In addition, in a woman who has had children, it is common for both the upper and lower abdomen to have diastasis recti (separated 6 pack muscles)…
I have axillary breast tissue under my armpit.
I have axillary breast tissue under my armpit
Dec 2, 2015
Axillary breast tissue should be routinely followed by your physicians just as the rest of your breast tissue. In most patients, this is a cosmetic issue. Occasionally, it may swell and become painful in pregnancy or menstruation, rub, or in rare cases, lactate if an ectopic breast with nipple. If it is to be removed due to functional concerns, I usually perform this by direct excision with an incision in the armpit due to the glandular and firm nature of the tissue. …
3 weeks post op, I gave triangle shape to breast and looks like extra nipple. Is this normal?
3 weeks postop, “triangular shaped” toward the underarms, and a piece of skin that looks like an extra nipple.
Aug 7, 2015
The bump on the sides of your breasts that you describe are “standing cones” or “dog ears.”This skin deformity results from the gathering of skin at the end of an incision after wound closure. Dog-ears commonly occur at the end of a long wound closure after an ellipitical excision of tissue. The center part of closure is the tightest, the ends are the loosest. Frequently, they occur after tummy tucks, lifts and reductions, and any other large elliptical skin removals. When seen, they are…
Spitting stitches, ps removed and now hole I have to pack with ointment twice a day. Help please?
Spitting sutures 4 weeks after tummy tuck
Aug 7, 2015
It is very common for dissolvable sutures to “spit” at 4 to 6 weeks post surgery. This usually manifests itself as clear or white tiny threads poking through the incision like tiny hairs. Occasionally, there is a more robust inflammatory response and it can look like blisters or pimples. As long as appropriate wound care is done and the sutures are dissolvable, this usually heals by itself in a few weeks. The scar may be slightly thickened, widened or reddened, but…
Will I have even breast and will I get my feeling back?
Will I have even breast and will I get my feeling back? (photos)
Jul 22, 2015
Your preoperative photos demonstrate that your left breast was larger than your right breast originally. Did you have the same size implant placed on both sides? If you had a slightly larger implant placed on the right than the left your breasts will likely be closer in volume than before but may not have the same shape. You had a challenging tuberous breast deformity and things have not stretched and settled yet. Residual swelling and/or a small seroma may mask your…

2 year post op Tummy tuck, I have dog ears & lower area is hard.
Jul 22, 2015
The dog ears are something that can usually be removed under local anesthetic in the office. You look like you otherwise have a nice result. While fat can be liposuctioned and injected into thinner areas, not all of the fat will “take”, and the fat will not necessarily want to stay in the scarred areas. Firmness, irregularity or lumpiness may result. Discuss the alternatives, risks and benefits with your plastic surgeon after an in person consultation.Any information…

If I don’t feel my breasts are big enough, can they be filled up larger? If so, can it be done with a syringe?
Jun 29, 2015
Once implanted, implants generally cannot be adjusted unless they are specific postoperatively adjustable saline implants (you would know, as these have an external hard “port” which allows access without rupturing the implant). However, the port needs to then be removed later requiring a second incision and procedure, and there is a limited fill range. Most saline implants would require removal in order to adjust the volume and again, there is a limited range in which it can be…
When trying to avoid rippling what is the best profile saline implant I can get?
When trying to avoid rippling what is the best profile saline implant I can get?
Jun 22, 2015
I am also somewhat confused by your presentation. You seem to be a smaller/thinner person who doesn’t want “that much projection”, however, the size of implant you are requesting will make a (perhaps overly?) dramatic change in your breast size. The base width of a low profile saline implant will almost certainly be larger than your breast base diameter, causing the implant to come up too high or too laterally on your chest (only way to know for sure is an in person consultation…
What happens to one’s body if a person gains about 15 lbs, after tummy tuck?
What happens to one’s body if a person gains about 15 lbs, after tummy tuck?
Jun 15, 2015
The residual fat cells in your body will enlarge, but at different rates depending on their sensitivity. Often, during liposuction or abdominoplasty, cells which are more sensitive to enlarging are removed to permit a more even or desirable contour. However, by gaining weight, you are likely adding weight over your whole body. You may be adding slightly to the thickness of your trunk or to your intraabdominal fat stores. You may need to increase your activity or…
