Plastic surgery age
I would have to say that if I did perform a tummy tuck on you, you would be my youngest patient ever! I would strongly discourage this until you are absolutely sure that you are no longer going to have children. (Steven Wallach, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tuck on a 19 year.
If you are an acceptable candidate than YES! But see in person at least 3 boarded plastic surgeons in your area.
19 is not too young for a tummy tuck but should be carefully deliberated.
If, at 19, your family is complete and your surgeon feels you would benefit from a tummy tuck, there is no reason not to proceed. However, should you change your mind about more children (you’re just 19), it would be better to have that operation after all the family has arrived. (Vincent N. Zubowicz, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Although you are only 19 , this is not a contraindication for a tummy tuck. If you have extra, stretched-out skin after weight loss or pregnancy, the only practical way to improve this is usually with some sort of a tummy tuck.
There are a variety of tissue-tightening devices (lasers or radio frequency devices) available which may claim to be of some use for skin tightening but in many cases may not provide the degree of improvement desired.
Other young patients who loose large amounts of weight may be faced with similar problems and may choose to undergo similar procedures even at your plastic surgery age. You should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon and understand the scarring and risks and benefits involved with the procedure. (Stephen Delia, MD, Boston Plastic Surgeon)
Age for tummy tuck plastic surgery
Most of the surgeons are saying it is not impossible to have the procedure done safely with good results even if you have more children. You just need to realize that you may need to completely repeat the procedure. As long as you understand this and you are a good surgical candidate, you can make your own choice. (Timothy Fee, MD, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)
Though you are of legal plastic surgery age to make a decision, it may be wise to hold off for a few years and try other non-invasive ways to reduce the extra tissue. (Shahin Javaheri, MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)
Nineteen years of plastic surgery age is not too young for a tummy tuck, especially if you plan to have no additional pregnancies. As with all surgeries, there are benefits and risks involved. You should obtain a consultation with a BC plastic surgeon who can discuss these with you. (John Whitt, MD, Louisville Plastic Surgeon)
First, Often one’s life view changes over time. While it is possible to have a pregnancy after it will likely result in changes similar to what was present before surgery. There is no reason your age alone would preclude you from abdominoplasty. Also, be sure that what you are looking for is not just fat reduction which is better treated with diet or lipo.
Finally, Abdominoplasty really is a range of procedures. Frequently in younger patients I have found that minimal skin resection w/o moving the umbilicus combined with some lipo will yield good results with less downtime and fewer complications. Define you goals (Thomas R. Walek, MD, Providence Plastic Surgeon)
While I have not done a tummy tuck on a lady your plastic surgery age, if you are certain you do not want any more children and your weight is stable then you can proceed.
However if you do have another child after a tummy tuck then you might undo all the tightening you had with the tummy tuck, and you might need another one. (Victor Au, MD, Chapel Hill Plastic Surgeon)
If you are healthy, have lost all extra weight and truly are done having kids, there is no reason you couldn’t have a tummy tuck done. (Richard P. Rand, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
