Pregnancy after tummy tuck photos

It is certainly possible to get pregnant after a tummy tuck. If you do remarry and decide to have children, try to be very weight conscious during any pregnancies. Pregnancy will stretch out the rectus abdomens muscle so you could need a repeat procedure after having more children.

Generally, I recommend that patients wait until their childbearing has been completed before having surgery but, given that you are now single and more children aren’t on the horizon, you could certainly proceed with surgery now. (Robert L. Kraft, MD New York Plastic Surgeon)

I don’t know of any hard info on this but, in general, there’s nothing about a TT that should prevent a future pregnancy. I would advise waiting AT LEAST 6 months before becoming pregnant (if you have that option) since you want to give your body a chance to heal. And if you have a TT and then become pregnant you have to expect that you will or may lose some of the effects of the procedure. That’s not to say you can’t have a revision or “tune-up” afterward and you may, in fact, need it. But from the standpoint of safety and simply being able to become pregnant and have a child – the TT should not prevent that. (Alan M. Engler, MD, FACS New York Plastic Surgeon)

Although I have seen patients have children after a tummy tuck, usually by accident, I generally tell most of my patients to wait to have the surgery until they are done with having children if they want the best result. There are too many unpredictable factors that will affect your results if you had a child after a tummy tuck, such as stretch marks, a hernia, abnormal deposits of fat, widening of your scars, and further stretching of your abdomen. I have not seen any major complications resulting from pregnancy after a tummy tuck. However, for the recovery involved and the investment made in this procedure, I would want my patients to have the best possible outcome. (Tito Vasquez, MD, FACS )
