Sex after tummy tuck
Sexual activity after tummy tuck
Any major surgery should have some activity restrictions to allow maximal healing and reduce swelling and is related to the amount of surgery that was done.
Sexual activity can increase blood pressure and increase the risk of swelling or delayed bleeding. Pain and discomfort often restrict patients the first couple of weeks.
The question is what defines strenuous? I tell patients if they are breathing heavy or sweating, then there is an increase in blood pressure.
I let patients walk and lift up to 10# weights immediately after surgery. They increase to moderate activity by 3-4 and full activity by 6 weeks. (Christopher J. Kovanda, MD, Minneapolis Plastic Surgeon)
Sexual activity after a tummy tuck
While a physical exam will provide more information, I always tell patients to wait 4-6 weeks after the procedure before undergoing any strenuous activity. Sex in the early post op period can lead to hematoma, seromas, and tearing of the repair of the diastasis rectus abdominus correction. (Louis C. Cutolo, Jr., MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Damage from sex After Tummy Tuck
Most likely during sex you caused bleeding from the wound bed. But does not necessarily imply that the muscle repair was compromised. Your surgeon can evaluate you and determine whether the muscle repair appears to be intact. (Mel T. Ortega, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck and seroma
Probably best to always listen to the advice of your plastic surgeon. This will likely resolve with several aspirations. Hard to know re ripping sutures without reading your op report and seeing if there are quilting sutures to rip. (Christopher J. Davidson, MD, FACS, Wellesley Plastic Surgeon)
Seroma and sex after tummy tuck
Without an exam and in-person evaluation, our answers are definitely speculation. It is certainly possible that sexual intercourse could have exacerbated your condition and resulted in seroma. As others have pointed out, I generally advise a 4 week period without significant heart rate and blood pressure elevation as these can result in bleeding and possible tummy tuck seroma. Additionally, I advise at least 6-8 weeks of avoidance of heavy lifting (>15lb). Check with your board certified plastic surgeon about your specific problem. Seromas that do not resolve with conservative measures may require another operation with the added cost and downtime needed to recover. (Matthew H. Steele, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)Physicians give you advice for a reason – now are you looking for someone to ease your conscience? Talk to your doctor. We can’t add anything to your care.
