Teenage weight loss surgery
Teenage tummy tuck after weight loss
As general rule, surgeons will recommend that if you plan on becoming pregnant, a delay of tummy tuck is best.
However, in the case of very significant weight loss and deflated and loose skin over tummy and pubic area, tummy tuck to remove the skin excess can contribute so much to your well being that it may well be worth whatever risk a future pregnancy may hold.
With tummy tuck, your pregnancy will still proceed normally, though there may some risk of skin stretch, but perhaps not.
You lost all that weight, and the value of looking better and feeling better should not be underestimated. (Peter E. Johnson, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
With as much weight loss as you have experienced, you might be a suitable candidate for a tummy tuck despite your young age. You can still get pregnant and have children after a tummy tuck. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. (James Tang, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck before pregnancies
A tummy tuck would correct the excess skin in the stomach and pubic area. It is unlikely that any muscle work on the abdominal wall would be indicated. Eventually, when you decide to become pregnant, there will be no detriment to the pregnancy except that you will likely have a recurrence of excess skin. The baby will be worth it 🙂 (Talmage J. Raine, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Teenage weight loss surgery tummy tuck?
Excess skin in the abdomen, flanks, and back are common after massive weight loss. A tummy tuck, extended tummy tuck, or circumferential lift will help obtain an improved contour and self esteem.
Pregnancy is not affected by the procedure, but it can undo many of the improvements achieved by a tummy tuck. If your desire for pregnancy is near, then wait to have the tummy tuck afterwards, otherwise you can have the abdominoplasty knowing you will likely need a redo after pregnancy. (Frank Agullo, MD, El Paso Plastic Surgeon)
No tummy tuck prior to pregnancy
The excess skin is a problem that can be addressed with out a formal tummy tuck and should not be a problem with future pregnancies. The skin can be removed to improve the shape and appearance at this time and after you have competed your pregnancies a formal tummy tuck can be done. The hanging skin is called a pannus so the procedure would called a panniculectomy. Discuss this with a board certified plastic surgeon and see if this will get what you want. (Marcus L. Peterson, MD, Saint George Plastic Surgeon)
Teenage weight loss surgery and future pregnancy
If you become pregnant after a tummy tuck, your skin will be stretched out again and your abdominal contour will be compromised. So if you are planning on becoming pregnant soon, I would not recommend a tummy tuck. But if you are not planning to have children for say another 10 years, it’s reasonable to consider a teenage weight loss surgery now, at the age of 19. Discuss this with a board certified plastic surgeon at the time of your consultation for more details. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Congratulations on losing the excess weight. That will go a long way to improving your overall long-term health in addition to self-esteem and quality of life. If you are considering having children in the future, I would advise to hold of on a tummy tuck until your child rearing years are behind you.
Prior to considering such a decision, please consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in order to review the risk and benefits of your decision in detail. (Glenn Vallecillos, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
If you are thinking of having kids any time soon, do that and delay the tummy tuck until after. If kids are a long way off, you can do the tummy tuck now but might need to redo it later. (Richard P. Rand, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
