Tummy tuck after a c-section
Tummy Tucks are a great way to get rid of the extra skin between the belly button and the c-section scar after pregnancy. Usually the pregnancy has also stretched the space between the rectus muscles so that needs to be tightened as well. Diet and exercise can reduce the thickness of the fat layer, but will not help with the extra skin or the separation of the muscles. (Suresh Koneru, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
Your pictures are not the best but it appears that you have enough excess skin to get improvement with an abdominoplasty. The procedure usually involves tightening of the muscles and removes skin and stretch marks below the belly button. I would have you wait at least 3 months. (Earl Stephenson, Jr., MD, DDS, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Given your photos and history, you are a good candidate for tummy tuck. Tummy tuck is a great procedure for women who have excess skin/fat and muscle separation (diastasis recti). I find that most women who have had children are good candidates for tummy tuck.
Please visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon; she/he will examine you and be able to tell you for certain whether you will be a good candidate for tummy tuck and liposuction on your waist/flanks. (Sugene Kim, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
The stretch marks between your belly button and c-section scar would be removed and a PS will most likely recommend muscle tightening. (Michael Hueneke, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
You would be a good candidate for a tummy tuck because you are excess laxity of the skin in the lower abdomen. Chances are you would also benefit from muscle re-approximation.
Regarding stretch marks, it depends on how high they go up. It is hard to see the stretch marks from the photos, but they do appear to go above your belly button. You may get a fair amount of them, but don’t be surprised if some remains behind. (Young R. Cho, MD, PhD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
You are an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck. You do need a muscle repair and all of the stretch marks that lie in the excision site between the belly button and the pubis will be removed. The lower end of your c-section scar would be incorporated into the tummy tuck design. (Barry L. Eppley, MD, DMD, Indianapolis Plastic Surgeon)
Can I have a tummy tuck after c-section?
You are an excellent candidate for a full tummy tuck with muscle plication. A tummy tuck will remove the excess skin, stretch marks below the umbilicus, tighten the loose abdominal muscles, and make the umbilicus more aesthetically pleasing.
I often add liposuction to the procedure to provide an even better abdominal contour. (Frank Agullo, MD, El Paso Plastic Surgeon)
You have both extra skin and what looks to be very relaxed muscles. Neither of these will get much better without surgery. It’s hard to see the stretch marks on the photos but you should expect that all of the stretch marks below you belly button will be gone. (Ronald Schuster, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
It does look like you could have a tummy tuck but this needs to be confirmed by an in person exam with a qualified plastic surgeon. Your health needs to be considered, smoking statue and you look like some preop weight loss might also be in order for the best result. (Richard P. Rand, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck candidate after C-section
With the skin excess and folding over after your C-section you certainly are a candidate for a tummy tuck. Some further weight loss might help improve your result. Tummy tuck can remove the stretch marks from the belly button and below. (Peter E. Johnson, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
What can a tummy tuck do and who is a candidate?
You appear to be a very good candidate for a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck is designed to accomplish three main things:
- Remove excess skin. In doing so some or all of the stretch marks are removed and the excess laxity is tightened. Doing so also allows the belly button to be rejuvenated
- Tighten the abdominal wall. The connective tissue that envelops the abdominal muscles is tightened and the shape of the abdomen especially on side profile is improved.
- Fat is removed. Fat is removed directly by excision but also through liposuction which is routinely performed alongside the tummy tuck especially to the upper abdomen and sides of the abdomen. (Remus Repta, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
Should I have a Tummy Tuck?
You are a candidate for a full tummy tuck. My two questions for you are
1. Are you finished having children?
2. Is your weight stable? The photographs seem to indicate a stable weight and I imagine you are not planning a future pregnancy anytime soon, as it is not the best idea to go through surgery only to need to have to repeat it. Pregnancy stretches your muscles and skin. All pregnant women have some widening of the space between the two rectus abdominus muscles. The more pregnancies the greater the widening.
This is called a diastasis of the rectus muscles and needs to be repaired in order for a women to have a tight flat abdomen. The full abdominoplasty will correct the diastasis, above and below your umbilicus, remove excess skin and fat, and as many stretch marks as are in the skin that is removed. I think you will be very pleased with a full abdominoplasty – tummy tuck! (Rondi Kathleen Walker, MD, Washington Facial Plastic Surgeon)
