Tummy tuck after c sections
A tummy tuck can most actually be performed after multiple C-sections. Discuss with your surgeon the techniques that he or she plans to use for the abdominoplasty.
In my practice with patients who have had multiple C-sections, I placed the scar below the C-section scar in a low pubic position.
I then elevate the skin and soft tissue taking great care to remove all the underlying scar tissue from the C-sections as well. The muscles are assessed at this time and are prepared if necessary.
Liposuction is a crucial component in our tummy tucks. Liposuction allows us to reach areas that we normally would not be able to access with the traditional tummy tuck.
Once your muscles have been treated and the fat has been removed, we then remove all the excess skin and stretch marks. The final tummy tuck is then closed in a low pubic position that will be well hiden underneath your clothes or bikinis. Definitely look into a tummy tuck.
Tummy tuck after C-sections
Yes, you can have a tummy tuck after C-sections. The majority of women undergoing a tummy tuck have had a C-section before. The tummy tuck allows you to remove the excess skin caused by pregnancy and also allows for repair of the damaged muscle. I would be happy to see you in my Henderson office. (Arthur Cambeiro, MD, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)
Oftentimes, patients that have had c-sections have the very best result, because that old scar is removed at the time of tummy tuck.
You can definitely have a tummy tuck and usually the incision either goes at the level of the c-section or below, thereby removing the old c-section scar.
Some older c-section scars are vertical. In this scenario, the entire scar can be removed with the excision of the lower abdominal skin and fat. (Bryson G. Richards, MD, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)
Usually the fact that you’ve had 4 c-sections does not preclude having a tummy tuck unless you’ve had some major problems like infection or skin healing problems and even these will usually successfully respond to tummy tuck. A consultation with a surgeon will let you know if you’re a good candidate for a tummy tuck and what you can expect from it. (Deason Dunagan, MD, Huntsville Plastic Surgeon)
Certainly you can have a tummy tuck after 4 c-sections. Many times you can also remove the old scar and keep the tummy tuck incision very low. (Steven Wallach, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
A tummy tuck can be performed after a C-sections. Many patients who have a tummy tuck have had a C-section. (Kenneth B. Hughes, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
There is no reason NOT to have Tummy Tuck after C section. In fact, your stomach will look much better after abdominoplasty. Timing is important, wait atleast 6 months after the C section before considering a Tummy Tuck.
Also, consider the care of the child after surgery, the level of activity. But after all, you will love your new you. (Samir Shureih, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
A history of a c section is quite common when patients present for a tummy tuck consult. Most of the time the c section scar is removed during the procedure. I find it helpful when my patients had a c section because it tells me and them the type of scar they can have. (Hisham Seify, MD, PhD, FACS, Orange County Plastic Surgeon)
A C-Section should not limit the ability to have a tummy tuck. Actually it is quite common to have a tummy tuck done after a C-Section. Usually the C-Section scar is cut out during the tummy tuck. (Julio Garcia, MD, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tucks are commonly done in patients who have had a C-sections. Often C-section scars are depressed (indented like a crevasse), and skin may hang over it. A tummy tuck is a nice way to improve that problem. During standard tummy tuck surgery, the six-pack abdominal muscles are usually repaired, and the lower tummy skin is discarded (all the way from the belly button to the pubis!)
The skin of the upper abdomen above the belly button is stretched down to the pubis. The effect is usually a flatter, smoother abdominal contour. In a standard tummy tuck, the belly button is preserved, but it’s brought out through a new hole.the first time the belly button is a button coming through a button hole!
A mini-tummy tuck removes loose skin of the lower abdomen, but the belly button remains unchanged. Be sure to see a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs tummy tucks so he/she can tell you if you are a good candidate for either procedure. (Heather J. Furnas, MD, Santa Rosa Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tucks are Commonly Performed after C Sections
It is quite common for women who have undergone C-sections to undergo tummy tucks. During the tummy tuck operation, an incision will be made just below the C-section scar. Therefore, the C-sections scar will be removed, and it will be replaced with a new scar from the tummy tuck. During the operation your abdominal muscles will be tightened up to give your abdomen a flatter appearance, and then redundant skin will be removed.
Definitely meet with a board certified plastic surgeon to find out more! (Joshua Cooper, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
The typical patient has had multiple pregnancies and frequently C- sections so don’t worry (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
You have earned that tummy tuck, so go for it! You’ll enjoy a flatter, tighter belly after the loose skin is removed and the muscles are tightened. (Carmen Kavali, MD)
There is no reason why you should not be able to pursue body contouring improvement after having had c-sections. In fact, pregnancy and c-section scars are the most common reasons patients pursue tummy tuck surgery. (Armando Soto, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
The changes caused by pregnancy often lead to the need for a tummy tuck, whether or not the deliveries were by C-section. The more pregnancies, the more the tummy has been trhough.
Good news is that if the C-section scar (hopefully they went through the same one each time) is on a good low position then it can be used for the tummy tuck also, just extended on each side. (Richard Baxter, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Abdominoplasty after c-sections
No, in fact you may be able to experience significant improvement in your overall abdominal appearance. Discuss your options with a plastic surgeons to make sure that you are otherwise an excellent candidate and have reasonable expectations. (Otto Joseph Placik, MD, Memphis Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck can be carried out after four c-sections
Absolutely. In themselves C-sections are NOT a contraindication to having a Tummy Tuck. As a matter of fact the extent and potential for improvement in a woman whose body was changed by 4 full term pregnancies is tremendous. A Tummy Tuck will not only flatten your tummy.
It would narrow your waist, remove all the stretch marks below your belly button, lift any sagging privates (Mons pubis) and depending on the tummy tuck technique used, (if a High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty is done), your thighs can be lifted and cellulite can be smoothed along the front and sides of your thighs. (Peter A. Aldea, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)
I’d almost go so far as to say having had a c-section is a reason to have a tummy tuck. After four, you can be fairly certain your abdominal wall is lax, and you either have 1/2 of the horizontal scar, or might have a vertical scar. In either case, if you are in good health, a tummy tuck can significantly improve your abdominal contour. Please have a look at the last patient in my video to see how her abdominal contour changed and the benefit of scar reorientation. (Michael A. Bogdan, MD, FACS, )
