Tummy tuck and weight loss
At your current height and weight with the amount of skin laxity you have after weight loss you would get an excellent improvement.
In general you can lose 25 lbs after tummy tuck without losing the results of the procedure. However, if you are continuing to lose weight could wait a bit longer.
As others have said, the risks of delayed wound healing are a bit less at a lower weight.
Nevertheless, if you feel you are at a stable weight I would not hesitate to recommend the procedure at your current weight, combined with some supplemental liposuction in the hips and upper abdomen. (Thomas A. Mustoe, MD, FACS, )
Would a Tummy Tuck Help?
You should expect a nice outcome with a tummy tuck. We like to see a maximum BMI of 30, and you are close enough at 32. The basis for that threshold is fewer risks of wound (and other) complications, and nicer outcome.
If you are still losing weight , it would be best to wait until you approach your target. If you have stalled, congratulations on what you have accomplished, now is the time to set up a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Advice may be to wait, but an in person exam is key to getting the best possible advice. (Jourdan Gottlieb, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
I’ve Lost Alot of Weight but Tummy Doesn’t Show That. Would a Tummy Tuck Help?
Your BMI calculates to be 31. I think if you lost 20 more pounds, your BMI would be 28. You should work to that goal. Then, I think your profile would be very much changed with liposuction and a tummy tuck. (Paul Vitenas, Jr., MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
The abdominalplasty (tummy tuck) will help you here. In my past, I have had the patients loose all their weight before surgery. The results are better this way. Get an opinion from a board cerytified plastic surgeon in your area. (Thomas A. Narsete, MD, Greenwood Village Plastic Surgeon)
Losing weight before Tummy Tuck
There are two options you have. First, continue to lose weight and deal with the loose skin and muscles when you are at a stable manageable weight. The other option is to suction the upper abdomen, waist and hip area along with a full tummy tuck to tighten the front of the abdomen. With this option you will get ‘instant’ shape changes and a flat tummy with more of the ‘hourglass’ figure you would want. You can then continue to lose weight as desired. I perform these kinds of procedures in a hospital environment with an overnight stay. It is safe, provided you are in good health and your surgeon is experienced in this kind of surgery. (Jon F. Harrell, DO, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tuck after Weight Loss
You are an excellent candidate for a Tummy Tuck. I would recommend that you get to the weight you want to stay at before undergoing this procedure. Congrats on the weight lost! Consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for an exam, and to discuss your concerns and expectations. (Robert E. Zaworski, MD, )
