Tummy tuck after weight loss surgery
After massive weight loss, the most important procedure that will give you stabilization of all your loose skin and subcutaneous tissue is a Lower Body Lift.
A lower body lift consists of a tummy tuck, a lateral thigh lift, and a buttocks lift. In situations like yours, I have found just a tummy tuck will leave you with piled up skin and subcutaneous tissue at the ends of the abdominoplasty incision.
These are often referred to as dog ears. The lower body lift not only eliminates these dog ears, but there is often a large area of deep fat in the flank region which liposuction rarely removes.
When this area of deep fat is removed in a lower body lift, the patient gets a more attractive waistline.
Liposuction as an adjunct to a lower body lift is helpful in clearing small pockets of fat, but is of no merit in correcting the loose skin that you demonstrated in the photograph you sent RealSelf.
Your 100 pound weight loss was from all parts of your body, and in each body part, it was circumferential.
Therefore, in each body part, you must correct the problem all the way around (circumferential) to get a cosmetically attractive result. Fortunately for you, there are literally tons of great Board Certified plastic surgeons in your area.
At this point, I would recommend you schedule a consultation with at least 3 plastic surgeons who are experienced in body sculpting for patients who have had massive weight loss. (S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS, Honolulu Plastic Surgeon)
Congratulations on the weight loss and you appear to be an excellent candidate at a minum for an abdominoplastyDr Corbin (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
A 100 pound weight loss is a huge accomplishment. You are an excellent candidate for a tummy tuck to remove the unwanted lower abdominal skin. (Bryson G. Richards, MD, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)
You would benefit from a tummy tuck with muscle tightening and liposuction of the abdomen, hips, waist and back. See a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in advanced body sculpting techniques for an in person consultation/evaluation. (George Marosan, MD, Bellevue Plastic Surgeon)
After losing that much weight, the skin and tissues are usually very stretched out. Liposuction relies on good quality skin with great elasticity in order to “snap back” and shrink after an area is treated. This is generally not possible after massive weight loss. A consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon will help you to know your options. Typically, a full (or extended) tummy tuck or a circumferential body lift will be advised. Make sure you are comfortable at your current weight before going to see a surgeon. They will ask how long you have been at your current weight and if you plan to lose any more. It is best to be at or very close to your goal weight before undergoing body contouring surgery. Your surgeon will also likely ask about any vitamin deficiencies you have had and what diet you are currently following. (Emily J. Kirby, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)
A tummy tuck looks to be in order to remove the extra skin. Liposuction can’t do that so it has very little role after weight loss. (Richard P. Rand, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
