Tummy tuck and liposuction: an ideal body quickly and forever

The combination of several surgical interventions in aesthetic surgery is not something surprising in recent times. Patients often turn to professionals with the phrase “I want a beautiful belly,” while one liposuction or breast lift may be insufficient to achieve the desired effect.

That is why surgeons often combine several types of plastic surgeries, in order for the patient to get exactly the result he wanted after the interventions.

Liposuction and Tummy tuck: how these operations affect each other.

The combination of liposuction and tummy tuck is often practiced, as it significantly expands the possibilities of plastic surgeons, because a specialist can not only remove excess fat, but also correct the abdominal wall.

Plastic surgeons have three basic options for a combination of such operations: liposuction before tummy tuck, during surgery, and after surgery. The choice of the surgeon option is carried out individually for each patient, according to the peculiarities of the specific case.

Tummy tuck and liposuction:

Preliminary liposuction and tummy tuck: when to start with “fat”;
Performing abdominal liposuction during tummy tuck;
First-priority implementation of tummy tuck and liposuction after it.

This combination of liposuction and tummy tuck, when the removal of fat precedes abdominal wall plasty, is indicated with an excessively large thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer in the anterior abdominal wall. This can significantly worsen the aesthetic result of the operation, and also increases the risk of postoperative complications.

In addition, this combination of operations is only necessary when the main fat is located along the midline of the abdomen, but the patient refuses from vertical abdominoplasty. The combination of abdominal liposuction with the treatment of the lateral surfaces of the trunk and flanks significantly reduces the thickness of the skin-fat flap and improves the outcome of subsequent tummy tuck.

At the same time, the period between operations should be at least 3-4 months.

Liposuction of the abdomen during abdominoplasty.

It has been established that liposuction in areas adjacent to the main incision created during abdominoplasty significantly worsens the conditions of its healing. That’s why only 3 options for performing liposuction in the course of abdominoplasty are practiced:

Limited liposuction of the edges of the main incision to reduce the formation of “ears” at the extreme points of horizontal access and the convexity of the cutaneous seam in the epigastric region;
Significant liposuction in the lateral parts of the trunk and flanks, made from additional accesses removed from the main incision;
Moderate liposuction, performed through the wall of the main incision with minimal detachment of skin-fat flaps and formed in the wound of the “dead” space.

Primary performance of abdominoplasty and liposuction after it.

This method of correcting the shape of the abdomen is the least preferable, since thinning of the subcutaneous fat layer of the anterior abdominal wall is accompanied by relaxation of the skin, which can significantly worsen the aesthetic effect of abdominoplasty.

This method should be chosen only in cases where the difference in the thickness of tissues located below and above the scar line is significantly pronounced. Additional liposuction also takes place when “the ears” are formed at the extreme points of the horizontal scar.

The combination of abdominoplasty and liposuction in various combinations allows to achieve maximum results in the case, when the surgeon correctly chooses the way of a combination of these operations. To prevent the occurrence of complications after a tummy tuck, surgeon should first of all individual transactions to determine the tactics suitable individual for each patient.
