Tummy tuck and thigh lift

Tummy Tuck and Thigh Lift (all skin). Is this safe?

This is definitely safe as long as you have no medical problems that would complicate things.

It’s quite common to combine these procedures, just make sure that you are using a board-certified plastic surgeon and getting your anaesthetic from a board certified anaesthesiologist. (Mathew A. Plant, MD, FRCSC, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)

Combining tummy tuck and thigh lift

Great to hear of the weight loss and I’m sure that accomplishment is very satisfying not to mention life changing.

Tummy tuck surgery and thigh lift

Combining tummy tuck and thigh lift is commonly done by surgeons experienced with massive weight loss patients.

The operations are technically not “skin only” as some fat is always resected and often the stomach muscles have to be tightened.

It’s best to discuss these things in detail during a physical exam and consultation. Price is typically based on how much time surgery will take with different body styles and amounts of excess skin requiring different amount of time.

Find a board certified plastic surgeon who has a large experience with weight loss patients and that you are comfortable with. God luck in completion of your journey. (Peter Kreymerman, MD, FACS, Morehead City Plastic Surgeon)

I believe I corresponded with you a while back. You have a fantastic figure and need someone whorepresents your figure to do this. Yes you can and probably should do this together.

Whether you get a lower body lift and or tt with most likely spiral thigh lift really depends on what improvements you want to get. Without seeing more views such as a lateral shot it is difficult for me to suggest which tt you may need or want.

If you have flat buttocks and want them a little fuller or lax skin along the sides of your thighs you may want to have a lower body lift. If not a routine tummy tuck should do. A spiral thigh lift goes from the back of the buttocks up the groin and inner thigh.

I think that should suffice for you. If on examination however I find more skin laxity down the thigh a vertical component may be needed.  A lower body lift comprises 5 components in my hands.

1. A full tummy tuck.

2. A mons lift.

3. A buttocks lift.

4. A strong lateral thigh lift.

5. Auto-augmentation of the buttocks and my signature flap, called “the hip flap” which maintains a feminine figure. (Peter Fisher, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)

These procedures are commonly done at the same setting. Seek an experienced surgeon familiar with doing procedures on massive weight loss patients. (Donald Griffin, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)

Combining surgical procedures is very common and it can be safely done in most circumstances. There are situations however where it is best to have the procedures done in separate settings. The decision is often based on overall operative times which are longer with combined procedures.

The recovery can be more difficult as well with combined procedures. Your surgeon will be the one to evaluate you and assess your surgical risks in order to come up with a treatment plan that is best for you.

Regarding the cost, it is doubtful that you will save money due to the fact that your condition is caused mainly by loose skin. The technical aspects of the procedure and surgical times will not change much. (Erik Miles, MD, FACS, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)

Both procedures could be done at the same time. But as everyone, you need a personal examination by a certified plastic surgeon who will say a final dictate. (Yily De Los Santos, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)

If you are medically healthy, the two can be combined. Make sure that your surgeon has extensive experience with both. (Kenneth B. Hughes, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck scar images after surgery

I do a lot of body contouring for weight loss patients. In my earlier years I tried to combine tummy tucks with thigh lifts on select patients. I stopped. There are several issues here. First, you are more likely to get a wound complication if you do them together. This is unlikely, but I did have a few. More commonly, I found it very difficult to control the scar placement when I combined the tummy tuck with the thigh lift at the same time. There are simply too many moving parts and I couldn’t be sure where the scar would end up. As you may know, scar placement is incredibly important in this area. We want you to be able to wear a bathing suit at the beach without showing off the incisions that your plastic surgeon made. So, while they “CAN” be done together, if you were my little sister, I wouldn’t let you. How is that for honesty? (Thomas P. Sterry, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

In my practice this would be a routine combination especially if both are planned as skin only. The majority of patients undergoing tummy tucks need significantly more surgery than you. If I’m planning on removing 2 or 3 liters of fat from the flanks and back at the same time, I would not perform any other procedures as the time involved might become excessive. Especially if a tight muscle plication is performed.

Just based on these pics, if you do need liposuction for the flanks or back, it will be minimal and the thigh lift can be a skin only medial thigh lift. Both procedures shouldn’t take more than 4 hours total and that would be a very reasonable OR time. Now as Dr. Lee alluded, the post op care will be a little more with a combined procedure. However, will a pain pump for the tummy tuck, the post op should be manageable even with both procedures. Yes the overall cost will be less as the first hour in the operating room is usually more for the facility and anesthesia. Some surgeons have OR’s in their office and can offset some of the cost, but never allow a surgeon to do a case like this without a board certified anesthesiologist present.

Congrats on your weight loss. And experienced plastic surgeon should be able to give you a fantastic result. Take care and good luck on your journey. (Shayne Webb, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
