I would wait until after the baby to get a tummy tuck, it would not make much sense otherwise, The pregnansy would partially undo the tummy tuck and revet the results, Still tummy tuck would not cause any mayor complications on pregancy, only in extreme cases
A tummy tuck is often done to repair the effects of pregnancy. You may find the procedure to be even more beneficial after a second pregnancy, for that reason you may want to consider waiting. In the meantime sculpting alone may give you a good result. If you do decide to go with a tummy tuck first it is advisable that you wait a minimum of 4-6 months so that your body has time to properly heal before undergoing the stress of carrying a child.
Tummy tuck is an out-patient surgery perform to remove the extra skin and tissue from the abdomen to flatten the area as much as possible. It also usually involves tightening of the abdominal muscles. The tummy tuck procedure is best performed when patient is at a stable weight and usually after pregnancies are finished. There is no reason why patient can not have another pregnancy after tummy tuck, but this will cause more laxity of the skin and will have a negative effect on the result. Also if muscle tightening has been done, fullness of the pregnancy may be higher on the abdomen. But not to worry it will have no effect on pregnancy itself.
It is possible, and safe in most cases, to have a child after a tummy tuck. Every woman’s experience is different, but in general the skin around the abdomen will still be able to stretch as normal.
Going through the full recovery period (up to eight weeks) recommended by the surgeon, to ensure the incisions are fully healed, and that you can move your abdomen as normal again will ensure a better recovery to allow for a comfortable future pregnancy. Discuss your particular situation with your surgeon first before making the decision though.
We usually recommend to plan surgery after pregnancies however if you will like to have your surgery and plan to have more children at a later time you still do so. Although it is possible to have a baby after a tummy tuck, I always advise patients to wait if they have plans for more children in the near future.
You can have a baby after having had a Tummy Tuck. The only thing is it will reverse the effect of the Tummy Tuck , so that is why I recommend having a Tummy Tuck only after having had the children you are going to have so when you have the Tummy Tuck you don’t undo it and have the permanent result.
Is it possible to do tummy tuck before pregnancy?
Yes, it is possible to get tummy tuck before pregnancy. Although the tummy tuck has little affect to a potential pregnancy or baby, the skin/muscle will stretch and loosen with the pregnancy.
For this reason, it is recommended that most patients wait to have a tummy tuck until they are done with their childbearing years. If they change their mind, we recommend waiting 1 year from the tummy tuck procedure to allow for a comfortable pregnancy.
It is recommended that you complete your family prior to having a tummy tuck (Standard abdominoplasty). A tummy tuck will remove extra skin and tighten remaining skin on the abdomen. Muscle repair is performed to assist in the goal of achieving a flat tummy. If there is a change of life plan or a surprise pregnancy you need not worry about you or the baby. The tissues will stretch to accommodate the growing fetus. Unfortunately this often leads to tissues remaining stretched after the baby is born. A secondary tummy tuck is possible but can be more difficult due to existing scar tissue.
A full tummy tuck should optimally tighten up the skin of your abdomen. Most of the time, muscle tightening is also accomplished. Pregnancy occurring after a tummy tuck should be expected to reverse some of the positive effects of your abdominoplasty surgery.
For that reason, it is advised to wait until you are done having children before you have a tummy tuck. If a person does become pregnant after a tummy tuck it should not cause any “ripping or tearing”. It will however, very likely cause some stretching. Having a tummy tuck should not affect your ability to go through a normal labor and deliver a child.
You can absolutely have a child following a tummy tuck but if you plan on being pregnant in a few years you should probably wait until your last pregnancy is finished.
A pregnancy will reverse the results of the tummy tuck and you will be left with excess or sagging tissue in the area. A second tummy tuck can be done after the pregnancy.
Yes you can have another baby after a tummy tuck. However, you may diminish the results of the surgery by the weight gain during pregnancy. The abdominal muscles which are pulled back together in a tummy tuck, may stretch apart if you had another baby.
Weight gain may cause additional stretch marks and loose skin on the abdomen. I recommend that women be done having kids before investing the money in having a tummy tuck.
It is a good idea to differ having tummy tucks until at least nine months after the last child birth. However under unpredictable/uncontrolable condition it is quite safe to undergo tummy tucks 9-12 months after any given child birth, tummy tucks would not interfere with pregnancies.
